Just a reminder. Last time I think Eddie's guitar strap fell off. I hope things go better this time!

you think they will do 1 song or 2?
if 2, will 1 be instro?

Jeff(bigtikidude)

I'm guessing it will be one song and since they are supporting their Rock En Espanol CD, Big Sandy will be singing.

It's gonna be "Dame Una Seña" a Spanish version of Brenton Wood's "Gimme Little Sign".

Amen brutha, gotta love the DVR built into the satelite box.
I hit the hay at 10 pm, I haven't seen Lenno, Letterman,
or any of those other late nite guys in years.
And Friday I am usually out at 11:30 pm.

Strike me down but.........i just saw Los Straitjackets on Conan and being the first time i ever saw them......i wasn't too impressed......i know, i know, everybody raves about 'em and i must be wrong. I wish they would have done an instro but they're hyping that record of Spanish versions of 60's tunes or whatever. I don't know.....i just got home from a 4 hour rehearsal so maybe my ears were shot........or maybe i should be shot!! I love LSJ but i wasn't impressed tonight.

Ditto. The vocal harmony was awful, and aside from Pete Curry's fine bass work, their playing seemed uninspired.

I used to be a HUGE LSJ fan, own everything they ever recorded through Supersonic Guitars in 3-D, did the Surfin' to Baja cruise in 2003, etc. I've tried to accept them as someone else's backup band, but for me, it just doesn't work. Sad

The Surge! (2004, 2011-2012)
Various non-surf bands that actually made money
(1978-1990)

I could have set my DVR... but I didn't.

I actually saw them in Psycho Beach Party a couple days ago. The good ol' days.

I stayed up and watched and have to agree pretty unimpressive. Big Sawndy just doesnt do it for me. Some of the stuf they did with Kaiser George is pretty good and the Pontanni Sisters can make a dog pile look and sound good. Give me LSJ in instrumental mode and I will be happy.

I didn't see the performance but my wife did last night. She is a HUGE Jimmy Lester fan and thinks that LSJ is just not the same band without him. Based on how she described their performance last night... she might be right.

Lonzo & Oscar (1999 to Present) www.lonzoandoscar.net

I'm a big Jimmy Lester fan too. But I like Jason (Teen Beat). I really like his other band the Hi-risers too.

I look at it this way, LSJ has been at this for what, 15 years or so? They have to do something to mix it up. I don't think they'd still be packing the big venues if they continued to crank out the same ol' instro CD after instro CD. I think the variety that they've added is way better than alot of other directions they could have gone. They still mix in a healthy amount of instros in their set, and they'll probably go back to making an all instro CD again at some point.

Plus, the variety helps boost the popularity of Big Sandy, Pontanis, Kaiser George etc... and that doesn't hurt either.

So, rock on, LSJ!!!

I enjoyed The Straitjackets on Conan last night.
There doing a great show on this tour. I was lucky enough to catch their Philly show @ the World Cafe. Big Sandy was rockin'. Thanks Pete for the listy.

INSTRUMENTAL SURF 24/7 DEVLAR SURF SESSIONS!

Nice to see them getting time on national television, but I really preferred the days when it was just the four guys and their instruments playing in small clubs for an $8 cover charge

I realized right before we went to bed that we have no functional VCR's in the house anymore, and apparently haven't had one for some time. Oops.

I liked it and I guess I'm in the lesser group on this one, but I will agree that the backing vocals sounded off. The stuff with Big Sandy comes off REALLY great in a live situation in a club.

I think the the most fun I've had at Straitjacket shows have been when either Kaiser George or Big Sandy were singing. Or the Pontani's were dancing.
