They're bringing back shoegazing music in a fresh and exciting way while showing that they really "get" what made that music so great in the first lace - I'm constantly hearing little references to Ride, Lush, even the Chanberries, but they have their own sound. And hooks for days and days! These kids know how to freakin' write a great song!!! Just love it! I was just talking to a good friend (who is in the music industry) the other day about how terrible all of the new alternative is. Its more pop than alternative: stale, formulaic, and over-produced. This band harkens back to the late 80s early 90s shoegaze and early alternative sound, but they sound modern and fresh. This is what the modern alternative scene should sound like, imo. Not that Imagine Dragons crap. I really really like Bros, Moaning Lisa, and Giant Peach. Thanks for the suggestions Ivan! I will dive deeper into their catalog for sure. The cool Catholic kids next door who go to the arts high school probably already like them. Got to get my kid off Taylor Swiftiness. I like the way they are so photogenic yet unaffected. Live video shows them to be really about their music. The shoegaze pose is a good one that allows for artistic integrity within a soft formula. I just can;t see any American band with popular potential doing anything as natural-seeming as this band. ...and I can't believe I just missed their 2nd Chicago show this week. — Squink Out! Wolf Alice are definitely a throwback to classic alternative music, though their songs are so damn great and they are so genuine about it (and so good at it), it's definitely not just a retro act. (And, as I wrote on FB, the guitarist even uses a white Jag!!! Can it get more up your alley?? ;) ) JOBeast and SoS, very glad you enjoyed Wolf Alice, too. The recording is great, the performances are great, the whole freakin' thing is great! I have no idea why I didn't realize that about this album when I first got it - I guess it's one of those things where my head just wasn't in the right place at that time. But for the past couple of weeks I've been spinning it over and over again, and I still can't get enough. The songs keep revealing themselves further with each listen and I can't get tired of it. HIGHLY recommended!!! I also just ordered their DVD "Live at the Sunhouse" (the package also includes the "Live In Amsterdam" CD) and this should be a fun viewing with my dad over Christmas! Can it get more up your alley?? ;) ) I'm pretty self critical, so I considered that I'm just a grumpy old man that doesn't like new music. But no. The crap I hear on KROQ (the "world famous" alternative station) is absolutely god awful. I may indeed be old and grumpy, but there's no excuse for the garbage I'm hearing these days! The more I watch these kids, the more in awe I am of their poise and polish. They look so young, but they have great talent and seem to be very mature about it without losing their sense of humor. When I was mid 20s, I would've had my head even farther up my own butt if I had any music talent, let alone success. And you're right. They harken back to the old days, but still come off as new and exciting. A proper blend of the best of both worlds, I guess. And yes!!! Go Fender offsets!!! Top
