Apparently Catalinbread are not the only ones to attempt an oil can type of delay pedal: Paul Last edited: Nov 23, 2015 16:43:55 |

ok I got mine and ordered custom knurled knobs.. here are two clips from my instagram page w two more using different guitars.. here I'm runing the Catalinbread at 18v, turns out I think I like it w 9v best, and driven by my atomic brain preamp. If your old n grumpy and think pedals dont work for surf you are just old n grumpy. I'm kinda grumpy but fighting the old, I'd never use a solid state amp if you paid me a million bucks but pedals are the greatest thing to come along for guitar since sliced bread. IMO this is w the Dipinto Galaxie this is w Tvjones tarmond loaded "el cabong" spaghetti western tele, I should have turned the warble completely http://www.thenocturnebrain.com |

I love this thing. I had my first real practice with it yesterday. I must admit, I was a little worried about how it would play with the reverb, but it's just awesome. |

I'm still lusting after this pedal. But a wrinkle has entered my plans: Old Blood Noise Endeavors (as mentioned by Skeeter) also has an oil can delay pedal as well. I have their Procession reverb pedal and I dig it, and I like the noises those dudes make with all their crazy pedals. Which one to buy?!?!?!? I'm leaning toward the Black Fountain because it has the various modes (the vintage mode sounds so lovely and dark), but damn those Catalinbread demos sound so dreamy. Ugh! Decisions decisions... Maybe it's just the way those pretentious hipsters play it, but the Black Fountain just sounds like a noise machine to me. Overall , the Adineko sounds more useful and musical to me, just my impressions. —Paul |

The old blood version is definitely cooler, but the CB version does exactly what I wanted. |

I'd like to redact my pretentious hipster comment. Those guys build great products and are clearly passionate about what they do. Their artsy vids and beards are all well produced and really cool. Perhaps its just my beard envy talking... Anyways, I wish the playing and vibe of the Adineko demo done by Catalinbread could be played through the Old Blood with similar settings. Old Blood's Black Fountain demos are weird and noisy, like skeeter said. Their other demos are pretty fantastic (check out their technical demo of the procession reverb for non surfy reverb sweetness). But non Old Blood demos of the Black Fountain sound great. Oh well, I guess I'll just flip a coin. Chipper is probably right, they'll both be really good. |

Josh, that Procession pedal sounds awesome. That and the Adineko are on my list of must haves! —Either you surf, or you fight. |

So I decided on the OBNE Black Fountain over the Adineko. Why, you ask? Because of the mode variations. The BF has 3 modes: Modern, Organ, and Vintage. Modern is a clean crisp sound, and Vintage is a little gainy and of course darker (which is what I want!). The Organ mode is like a slap back on one end of the spectrum and a spooky vibrato on the other. Depends on the knobs, of course. But its a very cool effect and its something I don't think you can get from the Adineko. So, because the BF has more options, I went with that instead. My first impression of this thing, when used as a reverb alternative, is OMG I LOVE IT!! Dark, sludgy, modulated waviness, with more than a hint of spooky. Silly adjectives aside, this is one of the tones I am looking for. It can sound very much like the Adineko demo, and it can do even more! When used for more of a standard delay effect in front of another reverb, it can lose a little of its magic. The magic, after all, is in the oil swirlies on the repeats. So when plugged in to my vintage blackface reverb unit with dwell on 6, the repeat warbles are a little drowned out by the thick vintage reverb wetness we all love so much. It's still there though, and handy for delay/echo sounds. When plugged into a more modern reverb pedal (OBNE Procession reverb in my case, sans the modulation) you can hear it a little better. Of course, these are first impressions with a baby in the room and only an hour or so of tinkering. I haven't been able to proper dial anything in yet. Anyways, I'm sure I would've been very happy with the Adineko. I just went for the additional modes. I love vintage tones (as many of you do as well) so its nice that we have multiple options for an otherwise long lost vintage tone box. You could get a vintage oil delay unit, but the price and tech difficulties make these two pedals look like very attractive options. In short: If you want a reverb alternative or a cool delay to go with your reverb, pick one of these pedals up! I can send a small sound sample to anyone interested. Just PM me. |

Yessah! Yeah, that dark spooky vibe is what I've been chasing all along. I think I turned the dwell down on my tank a little to make it more evident. It fits right in with green guitars and skull masks, for sure. |

I just got my Adineko along with a Belle Epoch and Topanga. Haven't had a whole lot of time to tweek and play around with yet as I'm out of town. Can't wait to get home! For the brief time I had before leaving, I love all three! I bonded with the Belle almost immediately. The Adineko will be a lot of fun to experiment with. —Either you surf, or you fight. |

Just ordered this pedal, was poking around on here to see what you dudes have read about it. Should she go before or after the reverb tank? |
