Freaking amazing!

Just stumbled onto this insanity. Watch Jimmy Rosenberg and Frank Vignloa's wrist and arm positionings during this ridiculous run on Dark Eyes.

What he's doing there is called "Rest stroke picking"
All the Downstrokes are from the forearm and elbow, and all the Upstrokes are from the wrist - a momentary upward flicking motion almost as if you're looking at something hidden in the palm of your hand. Resulting in a rotational motion of the arm.
The arm changes position based on which string he's playing on.
Every string begins on a downstroke and ends on an upstroke. This requires an even number of notes per string OR the use of legato, pull-off's or hammer-on's in order to force an upstroke before changing strings. Downward (never up!) sweep picking is employed whenever possible. Gypsy players achieve their lightning speed by strict adherence to these picking rules. I've been studying and dissecting this technique for a few years now, and have had good results applying it to electric tremolo picking.
Dark Eyes is a very hard song to solo over because of the quick chord changes and modulation.

The solution is to angle the pick downwards so the tip is pointing up.

Trying to get my head wrapped around that Psycho. But I will.

Those kids in the above video... Really? I can't even brush my teeth that fast.

Ok, well, time to get in the shed...

This is what I mean:

notice how the tip of the pick is pointing upwards and is above and clears the strings? This is what I"m referring to as a Downward pick slant. Every upstroke puts the pick Above the strings rather than in between them, keeping the pick free to hit any string without having to 'jump' over other strings to do so.
