Well once again we messed up on the sitter thing...so this time it was my wife's turn. (We've been alternating every other year for 4 years now!). I'll try and twist her arm for a show report, but I don't think that will happen. So here are some of the highlights that she told me.
DD was basically the same, doing basically the same old stuff. But it still was very entertaining, and she had a very good time. Before the show started, the guy next to her saw her camera, and cautioned her to not to use the flash. Apparently this guy was at the show last year, and DD threw him out for flashing him repeatedly. (I'm not sure that holds up as I was there last year and don't remember that). Anyway, Shari was there 2 years ago and took photos non stop. And soon when the show started, DD started coming over to Shari to pose for the camera (Shari was parked right in front of Sam). So if you want good pictures of DD, make sure you use a female photographer. (Or that guy was messed up).
Sam and Daxx were great by all accounts, as always. Sam once again broke a string.
DD strongly urged everyone to wear hearing protection, but then said he personally never used them. Only wimps used them, he said, then pointed at Sam, who pulled back his thick black hair to reveal ear plugs. But DD thought the audience should be wearing them. (And with 4 Showmans on stage you had better take his advice).
A girl in the front row was holding up her cell phone, presumably letting her friend listen to the show. DD saw this, picked up the phone, and asked "What are you, too cheap to buy a ticket?".
Shari said DD played for a long time, close to two hours...didn't have too much of his running commentary as in previous years...did a lot of vocals. He did the whole "play the drums with Daxx, play the bass with drum sticks, the trumpet, etc" thing too.
She also reported DD had ran two very large eye-screws into the Beast for a strap holder. And that he must have changed his mind a few times about where to screw them in, as the bottom had several holes.
A nice surprise was the opening band, "The Surf Zombies" (do they know about The Zombie Surfers?). Apparently they are local, and this was their first real gig (!). Wow...a local surf band! Shari liked them a lot, and thought they played mostly originals. Maybe they need a 3rd guitarist...hmmmm.
So that's about it. Deepest apologies go to Mr. Raccoon who lost his life under the car coming back...he managed to bust the radiator, damage a wheel well, damage the A/C condenser line, break a plastic panel, etc....YIKES! Shari described him as HUGE, like a beach ball with a racoon head. RIP big fella.
Shari has a lot of photos. Hopefully we will post some soon.
