Take a look at this video and tell me if you think it might inspire a song or two about big wave riding. Shocked Holy moly, boss!

BOMBORA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Laughing Razz Very Happy

As Friedrich Nietzsche wrote, "What doesn't kill me, makes
me stronger."

Quite!

Is this something you can share with the rest of us, Amazing Larry?!?

Agree yes that is a big wave. it could inspire a tune or 2 about riding big waves!! whats with the jetski??? question----if it doesn"t kill me, it will make me stronger? nietzsche?? hell, in the bayou if it don't kill me, i'm going to cook it and eat it!!!!!-----quote from poppa boudreax of cocodrie, la. peace

SurfDaddy...
When the waves are that high (big) they move at a great speed. Hince, you need a pretty fast start to get hooked up on one.
Joel

I always figured the jetski tow in was also because these waves are a long way from the beach - to long to paddle - but what do I know? Very Happy

OT: Nietzsche, btw, is suspected to have suffered form either syphilis or brain cancer and generally wrote a lot of BS. Very Happy

Thats "Jaws", north shore, Maui, Hawaii. Thats where Laird Hamiltion & The Strap Crew perfected tow in surfing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaws_(beach)

ok isee why theres a jetski there--couldn't see the towline--didn't get a good pix on the link. Idea Idea Idea oo oo oo--what would happen if i mounted a 50hp outboard on my shortboard???? someone would be picking my teeth out of the riverbank and out of the sand at a beach. but would it be radical until i wiped out. sorry, i see a project in my future---got to go!! peace

I think that's the epic wave ridden by Mike Parsons at Todos Santos in the movie "Step Into Liquid." I don't think that's Peahi, aka Jaws. Todos is off the coast of Mexico.

It looks too familiar: the big wall of water, the fact that he gets totally caught in the mist. I just can't believe how that thing wells up behind him - like a mountain. It looks like he is snowboarding, not surfing.

There can't be too many other big-wave videos like that one! Just amazing.

PS They use jet skis because you couldn't paddle into something that big and fast. They usually get to the big open-sea waves by boat, then toss in the jet skis. The skis also serve as rescue sleds - when a wave like that breaks, it is like having a city block fall on top of your head. Somebody's got to be there to get you out of the rubble in the impact zone.

Be nice. Wink

Nietzsche developed syphillis later in life. But I love that quote, and I
think it sums up the whole idea of living life on the edge. Well, maybe
another of his would be better: "The secret to happiness is: to live
dangerously!
Build your cities on the slopes of Vesuvius! Send your
ships into uncharted seas! Live in conflict with your peers and equals.
Be robbers and ravagers, as long as you cannot be rulers and kings, you
men of knowledge, for the time will soon be past when you would be
content to live in the wood like timid deer."

Or something like that.

I'd rather be slain by a focused and capable enemy who truly hates my guts.

I just reviewed the Billabong Odyssey film. In the interest of factual accuracy, that was Mike Parsons at Peahi, aka Jaws in Hawaii, not Todos Santos, as I had thought. You may now resume whatever you were doing...

the guy on the jetsky is randy laine he is one of my closes friends and a great surf drummer he lives in carlsbad ca.and he all so played with the royaltones with ric knight in encenitas a few years ago. as kids in the early 60's we surfed alot and played in a surfband called the nomads and he's one hell of a great guy.you have to get going at about 55 mile an hour to get in to one of thous bombs hence the jetsky not for the faint of heart
