Permalink Power Conditioners

Who uses a power conditioner and what is a good one? How critical is it to sound? I know Wronski uses one but he can actually hear dirty current with his naked ear. I'm considering getting a Monster conditioner/protector for about $150 and I am also interested in the Furhman Power Factor Pro at $379...used on eBay for $200-300 . Anybody have any recommendations?

I personally wouldn't go with Monster, as I don't agree with their business practices.

It sounds like a lot of money for something you're not sure will do anything. See if you can try someone's first or at least buy locally so you can return it easily.

I wish I knew someone Danny. So I take it that you do not use one?
I live in an old house (1939) that still has 2-prong outlets. I can see lights dimming when the washer is on. At home, sometimes my guitar sounds better than at others and I think it could be related to the current (or my current mood). Some of the venues around here are even worse. I was wondering if anybody else uses one and if it they feel it is important.

I use one, mostly for safety reasons (I don't want my rig to die at some bar), plus it lets me use just one outlet. Alot of people have a problem with monster and their business practices, all I can say is to use their cords and nothing else. A Furman M-8 power conditioner should be enough, and can be had for around $40. If you feel that you need more, they have plenty of higher end equipment. Furman is the best in my opinion.

Consider both power conditioner and voltage regulator. Furman makes an excellent unit that does both. It's not cheap but it will protect your amp and other equipment and improve your sound as well (power conditioners filter noise from power supplies, voltage regulators maintain consistent voltage so that your amp and power tubes are being hit evenly). I've used Furman before and their units are very reliable in my experience. The new combined conditioner/regulator from Furman is the AR15 II.
