Specifically Oahu but other islands as well. Is surf even popular there. I know Ska and Reggae are Has anyone heard of a band getting a residency in a hotel like they do in Vegas. Asking for a friend. LOL.

The Takeoffs used to play pretty often at the Sheraton in Kauai, I don't know if they're still around?

I don't recall hearing of any surf band in Oahu though.

Wow Greg, I thought you were being rhetorical on FB, but it seems you're serious. Paging Ron Rhoades!

Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF

I just returned from two weeks on Maui. I got out every evening to places that have live music and did not hear anything remotely close to surf music. The local radio station KPOA does the daily surf report using Hawaii Five O as the background music (hearing surf music in unusual places?). If you are a slack key master you'll find a great gig in Hawaii someplace.

I stayed at the Sheraton Poipu Beach on Kaui last October and did not see or hear the Takeoffs. Hurricane Ana passed by curtailing a lot of outdoor activities including a wedding and other events. if their gig I is outdoors that may have be why.

Da Big Island
Years ago Mauna Kea Beach Hotel had Hawaiian bands playing every evening at the bar, sadly the economy put and end to that and they now have solo acts and only on busy nights.

Happy Sunsets!

Aloha Y'all,
Mr. Backwards, here on the Big Island, named Hawaii. I have had a surf band here since 1999 named "Solar Wind" The gigs we get are usually Private Parties (Paid) and Community Fundraisers (Gratis). We have played regularly at the Annual Tiger Espere Longboard Surf Contest for 16 years.

We did write an original tune called "Lighthouse"

Oahu and Waikiki had no surf music. Bring some. You never know. People might dig it. There's a great Hapa Haole band which is really awesome at the House Without a Key, but at the Hilton were we were staying was an awful Top 40 "hits" band that played Lionel Ritchie and other puke-worthy crap. Bring some surf! My wife Kate and I will be there mid-November!!!

This is really helpful. My wife has family in Kailua and we visit all the time. I always hope I'm going run into some local surf music but it seems that A) Hawaiian's like their own local music and artists (anyone on the Mountain Apple label) and B)Love dub and reggae especially the 70's era stuff. But I think the right surf band could do well over there especially if it was something of a show. something with a little comedy and cabaret to it.

Thank you guys for your help. I'll let you know how my white man plays surf on the islands dream progresses.

I heard of one surf band on Oahu about 5 years back.
But have since forgot their name.
I think there is a new band called Men in Grey Suits.

The Men in Gray Suits sound pretty cool!
I wish I had known about them last year when I was in Honolulu.
