Permalink Teisco Del Rey!

Hey guys! I'm obsessing again about the Teisco Del Rey Spectrum ~ King of the Monster Japanese Surf Guitars.

Does anyone have one on here????? If so, my plan is to recreate one and I need your help. I'd like an outline drawing of the body. OR - does anyone know where I could get the plans for the body?

Thanx! Laughing

Didn't they reissue these a couple of years ago?

Yeah... but the new ones are made of plastic and only available overseas...

I've got an original Del Rey which I like a lot.

Eastwood used to have a Del Rey reissue. They keep coming out with great GAS inducing oddball reissues. It is probably only a matter of time before he does a Spectrum...

Unfortunately no, just the Del Rey.

which one? I have a '68 "sharkfin" K3-L in teal blue. It's in pretty decent shape...

It is a ET-460 or K-4L depending on the catalog you look at.

I picked it up cheap on ebay listed as an "Unknown model, lots of switches" sometimes those are worth checking out!

A W E SO M E !!!!

Looks like it's in nicer condition than mine! I've been looking for a 4 pickup model, too! I troll ebay constantly...

Anyway, good luck with it. Do you have any recordings you've used it on you can post? I'd love to hear it.

Hey CC check out image #1 in the "SCOTS fans - Rick Miller's guitar gallery" post.

THANX! Cooooool....

This was the largest image I could find of a Spectrum 5:

The only thing I could suggest to make an accurate outline would be to resize the image to get the shape. The amount of resizing would be the tricky I imagine, but figuring the standard neck width at the hell of most guitar necks is 2 3/16" (55mm) on most Fender guitars (and assuming that the Teisco neck is slimmer than a standard Fender neck, possible closer to a Mosrite with, which I don't know (?))...

The trickier part of the body building process would be the German carve around the edges. It sounds like a pretty intricate body to replicate.

Thanks. I will probably just "eye-ball" it and do a rough drawing using french curves. As for the German carve - that would be impossible for a novie like me, so it will be a flat-top version. I'll post some pics when I get the project uderway...

I found this blog from a guy who documented buillding his own Mosrite - may come in handy...definitely post pics of the building process, I'd be interested to see it.
