I love my 63 VVRI - It is an Australian export model I bought in Belgium and drove it back to London through the tunnel!! Mine has a pair of light dope Weber 10F150s in it - which does make the amp quite bass heavy compared to the old Oxford reissues. I tend to turn the bass off and have the treble at 7. Still, it means I can get killer blues tones from the amp - almost perfect Peter Green with the reverb. After lots of tube swapping, from Wing C 12AX7s, some NOS 1960s GE 12AX7s and reissue 'Mullards' I have settled on the JAN Philips 5751's in the V1 V2 and reverb positions. I am using Wing C's for power tubes. The slight drop in gain from the 5751 makes the amp seem more '60s' in tone. Last edited: Nov 01, 2013 05:29:34 |

They tend to be quite expensive as they are quite rare in Europe - I see them on Ebay occasionally going for about £950-£1200. |

Cool! Good luck! I hope more surf guitarists pick up reissue Vibroverbs, they really have a more authentic sound for surf than blackface/silverface amps. And they're not going for huge money, you can often get them for $700-900. —Ivan |

what are your tubes in your Vibroverbs? I have one of these reissues and can't help feeling something is missing. Now I've been told I need to use 12AX7's across the board like as in the original 1963 Vibroverb. I have seen some links that say that the Reissue reverb driver is a 12AT7 but also some that say that it's a 12AX7 so which one do you have in V3? What about V6? I have an RCA 12AT7 in V3 and will be putting in a 12AX7 |

For what it's worth, the original Brown Vibroverb (6G16 circuit) schematic shows NO 12AT7's. And both the reverb driver and PI (your V6) are 12AX7's. thanks, I don't think any original brown amps had a 12AT7, and it also had a rectifier tube. I'm interested if anyone is running their RI's with all 12AX7's and how that sounds. I'm not with my amp so can't try it yet but will and will report how it sounds |
