Yeah, that was a relatively recent gig. Our second gig back from hiatus. I had been rehearsing with pretty much every guitar I owned trying to find what I wanted to do. The previous gig I played the '60 Jazzmaster the entire gig until somebody shouted "you had better put the Pink guitar on" during the encore.
And I guarantee I list multiple guitars as my favorite surf guitar in that thread! It was Jazzmasters for a long while, but it was original Jags and now we are back to that! I love the scale, I get a really thick but brilliant tone out of them, and they just are a little more versatile over a JM for me.
The guitar is a Duo Jet, they don't make that particular color/pickup combination anymore. It is a really great guitar, absurdly well played for a relatively new guitar.
And it isn't really because the guitar that it isn't a classic surf sound. There are many other factors that contribute to it not having that sound.

Surf 90s are pretty decent pickups. They sound a bit more Fender-like than real Dynas, but a bit thicker than Strat pickups. They're pretty versatile, but don't have as much character IMO as something like a Jazzmaster pickup.
They worked really well on my old Tele. For some reason I'm not as happy with them on my semi-hollow body.

It is the lead guitar in songs that don't have Mercenary in the title
Which guitar plays the other songs? Such as "The Wrath of the Mercenary" in your first album? JM?

Yeah, JM.
I'll have to listen to those songs again and I'll let you know. It is pretty easy for me to tell Strat vs. JM on our stuff.

Thank you Jake. That would be an interesting comparison(Strat vs JM)

So a good comparison on our first record, Reverberated is the two Mercenary songs. The Wrath of the Mercenary is a Jazzmaster and the Mercenary Rides Alone(Into the Sunset) is a Strat(except the bridge which is a JM, but by a different player and different amps).
I honestly had to look those song names up. We call the one Wrath and the other MRAITS(EM-RATES).
And the other songs:
Uomini Del Pistola - JM
Bikini Sunrise - JM
Sixty Seconds - Strat
Atlantic Waltz - Strat
Hull Breach Reef - JM
El Capitan - Strat
When it Rains - Strat
Remember the Summer - Strat
Scarlett Fever - Strat
Boogie at the Beach - JM
Surf After Sunset - JM
Riverside Drive - Strat
Order 66 - JM
All's Quiet at Sweetwater - JM

I am astounded . . .
Sixty Seconds, Atlantic Waltz , El Capitan are my most favorite songs from this album! I'v been listening to those a couple of times a day for the last week.
Loots like I don't need to look any further than a Strat. . .
By the way , don't want to get too teachy, but out of curiosity: what strat is it? what pickups? (I guess Eric plays with neck pickup)
