Not sure about private messages, but if you edit your profile (just click on your own name) and scroll down to the bottom, you'll see options to receive notices. —This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got. |

DaveF is right about PM notifications. Would you like this on by default? Should I turn it on for everyone or just new members? Or do you like it the way it is, where you have to opt-in to receive the notification email? —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

Agreed, I think PM notification should be on automatically with opting out by choice. Alan |

Thought it was on automatically. As the lowest common denominator for info/tech stuff I'll testify that however it worked, worked. Oh, and I bothered Brian a whole bunch. Maybe we should avoid doing that. Hmmmm....what would that thread look like? —Da Vinci Flinglestein, The Syndicate of Surf on YouTube |

So 3, maybe 4, want this turned on for everyone. No one else seems to care. Now if we had done this in the beginning it would probably be okay. But I just feel weird changing the settings of 8,610 people because 3 or 4 people are having trouble contacting people who aren't very active on the site anyway. I'll still think about it and leave this open for discussion. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

Aloha Brian: Telling people it exists would work but a lot of folks don't even know of this thread. We all get on with different agendas, interests and time schedules. Thanks for listening. The mighty KAHUNATONES www.donschott.com |

I'm not crazy about using the PMs on the site. I prefer email. Jeff(bigtikidude) |

Brian, don't fret about anyone weirding out, it's common practice. ON. BTW, the PM system make this site a lot bigger than what appears to the naked eye. Lots of deals and personal interaction, help given and received. I'm very grateful. Last edited: Jul 23, 2015 02:16:20 |

One thing folks need to keep in mind is that, if they are getting their PM's and reading them via their email client, they still need to come back in to the PM area on the site and do housekeeping on their Private Messages. Not doing that causes: "Hey I PM'd you but your inbox was full" type stuff. I'd prefer to leave the options to the user, default=OFF; but then it doesn't bother me to take 30 seconds or a minute to setup a profile or check/uncheck a box. It's a user-level preference that, frankly, I don't think a site manager should need to be bothered with. YMMV. So does that count, statistically, as 100 votes for leaving it up to the user? I vote for Brian's idea of not fixing something that's not broke. ALWAYS side with IT- Krikey, anyone reading this thread should get the idea "Oh, that's something I can do my own self!". Imagine these people trying to upload a picture or (gasp) a link. There will be no survivors. —Da Vinci Flinglestein, The Syndicate of Surf on YouTube |
