My best friend and I have been trying to incorporate our different styles for a while now and think we have found the sweet spot. He's heavy into synthesizers and drum machines and I dig the classic surf sound. Any comments and critiques would be very appreciated.

The overall vibe would probably be successful in a disco (I'm 63 so that's my term for it, take it for what it's worth, lol). I wonder if your friend can do that with a surf beat... The guitar tone sounds very identifiable as a nice surf-like substance, no question. I'm not catching a melody that grips me though, vs. just jamming over a disco beat. The audio quality overall is nicely done.

I must say, when i read drum machines and synthesizers I was ready to hate it, but I quite like it! It's an interesting mix and I think it actually works well. Good job!

Thanks guys. This was definitely more of a jam over, but the next one will have a melody and more of a stompin' beat. We just wanted to see how a straight mixture would work. We were very satisfied with results.

I think it sounds awesome! It's a nice blend of two different styles that don't clash but rather work together surprisingly well.
I will however agree with Badger that I don't really find a central melody or theme that catches me either and it's clear that this is something of a "jam", but overall-soundwise I think it sounds great and you're on to something.

Yeah, as Mantis said, I think the textures can definitely be made to work together. If that's how the 2 of you make music together go for it. Again, it's clear you've got the tools to get a nice audio result.

Like the concept; basically a dance mix with surf guitar added. Okay my two cents:
1) Agree, need melody line. Starts off with a bit of a melody then breaks into full jam a little early and it seems to continue through the end. Create a melody line, or use the opening one, then around the middle put some jam and then end with melody line.
2) Guitar mixed too far in the back of the mix. Bass/Kick a bit heavy (but I'm a guy in my 50's, and a pop writer at heart, so I may be a bit behind the times)
3) Like the heavy dance drums with a surf guitar-this is how surf music started, so evolving to a more modern beat sounds like a great direction.
4) When you go to the more jamming/free style playing, maybe change the snare beat to a more traditional beat (you know tap-tap tap, tap-tap tap) then return to your dance groove and melody line.
5) If you do make some changes, hit me with a PM so I can check out the new version.
Best of luck!
