And like the 3 Bears this one is perfect. Its a 4BB3A1B and honestly looks identical to the stock pan [except for the gold color]. But it sounds ALOT better than the stock tank, more lush, deep and a bit quicker decay.

OK, so what brand is this miracle pan, then? Kind of makes me curious, and model EM1058 doesn't sound too familiar Smile

^ Its just an older Accutronics 4BB3A1B, actually looks nearly identical to the stock pan but has a slightly higher input impedance. Maybe its the older springs?
Were these older Cary,Ill pans made better than the current ones?
I guess what I've learned is pretty much any older pan sounds better than the stock reissue pan...[at least the 2 that I tried did!]

Thanks to this thread, I (finally) bought a MIK Accutronics-Belton pan for my RI Fender tank. What a HUGE difference in drip! However, I think the increase in drip is due to two reasons...

When I removed my old USA pan I noticed a relatively soft pad stuck in between the pan and the back side of the grille. It was really stuck on there good. I removed it and of course I removed the pad from the new pan as well.

Once I installed the new MIK pan, I tested it out and I was very happy with the results. I actually had to turn the dwell and mix down a little from where I was used to having it set. I would recommend everyone on here switch from the USA to the MIK pan if you want more drip.

One last thing, where can one buy replacement springs if they happen to break? There are eight of them, four that connect to the grille studs and four that connect to the tank.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience with the MIK pan. Definitely the best modern pan for surf in my opinion. Thumbs Up

Styrofoam? really? the L-bracket (when engaged) pushes the pan to press up against a foam pad but I am not aware that Styrofoam was part of this...

It wasn't Styrofoam, I don't know why I said that. It was a pad with a sticky back though. Now I am thinking maybe I shouldn't have removed it. I guess it was supposed to be there. Should I not use the L bracket now? How to I put it back on there?

If the foam pad is now removed, the L-bracket(engaged) will simply press against the pan but the reverb springs will not be dampened by anything. I think there are many that transport their reverb units without engaging a bracket. I think that it is a matter of opinion/experience whether the springs truly require dampening during transport and if this has any wear and tear considerations. Personally, I always dampen the reverb springs of my unit when transporting it.

Thanks for the info. I didn't mean to get us off track. The point is, the MIK pan is by far the superior pan in my opinion. I will still keep my USA pan for a backup.
