Here is another track from our new CD "Surfin' the Silver Screen"
Spaghetti Western is the biggest influence, but I like to think of it as Lawrence of Arabia meets the Good, the Bad & the Ugly, with a little Dick Dale thrown in for good measure.
Hope you like it.

That's terrific! I can hear LOA in it for sure. Nice idea and well-done. I'll be buying this for sure.

Here's another new spaghetti western song, by The Insanitizers, "Shootout." It has some James Bond spy feel.

Haha!
I am with you Jake.
And, sorry, but this Insanitizers song is no spaghetti song at all. It is a simple surf song, not more. I don`t hear any spaghetti!

Wow! At first: This is a great Spaghetti Western Song, really!
But my 2nd thought was: Oh, what is this in the lead melody? Strings? Violins? ...hmmm, okay, violins are okay for Spaghetti songs. But for my ears this sounds like a cheap keyboard, sorry! A have a 90`s "Casio sound" in my mind with this sound. ...maybe use a bit an other sound for further great songs?
What I really love are the vocals! This is really in the tradition of many old cool spaghetti songs. Good female voice! I love the higher and higher tones! Great!

When it came time to mix, there was some discussion over the keyboard sound. I too felt it was somewhat lacking as well, but it was a little late to go back to redo it. Played live, the string sound works better and everyone was used to it, so it stayed. Looking back, maybe an early Pink Floyd Farfissa sound would have been better.
Thanks for the input.

I suspect they were going for a little bit of the Korla Pandit sound.
Hence the title "Korla's theme"
I dig it!

Good catch.
It originally started out as all spaghetti western before evolving into
a "Spaghetti Eastern" song, and then Korla Pandit popped into our heads.

Hey nice tune man , I really like it ..., can you please share with us ...,
- some of your recording techniques that you used on this recording - like;
- some of the instruments,
- and the mixing process to achieve your vintage sound .
- What gear as used ?
..., and also - are those female backing vocal from a virtual instrument, or did you have a real singer ? ,
Although it sounds fine and really adds a nice flavor to the song that I like, I am asking this as it sounds to my ears like its sounding slightly too stepped between the note scale changes (like its a V.I vocal samples with limited functions). Either that, or its a real singer that has had autotune applied to heavy handedly like the natural note tails have been dragged too much into line ?
RE ; the keyboard sound . Have you considered the use of a V.I here ? there are now quite a few excellent and authentic sounding choices for use now , and the joys of midi lets you experiment with what best fits the mix.
Another option is to analyse your existing keyboard track audio with Melodyne , then convert those notes to midi , where you can then substitute the original performance you played to a V.I
cheers man

Great tune guys , cooool
Although I personally couldn't hear any spaghetti western influences in the song , it was a great surf tune none the less, also with some nice added spy influences thrown in (ie; just past the 2 minute mark till the end)
On a constructive criticism note ; I would have liked it a lot more though - if the mastering process had been a touch more light handed, as to me it feels as though the song was pushed too hard, by pumping the track with compression/ limiting to within its last millimeter of headroom , thus choking some of the much needed breathing space out the song. Luckily this is easy to fix

Thanks - Glad you liked the song.
We wanted a vintage sound for the recordings.
We recording on a Studer 2" tape machine and mixed in Protools.
The drums were recorded w/2 overhead mics along with the kick & snare mic'd.
The acoustic guitar was a 70's Ibanez 12 string, and the elctrics went through a Vox AC30 and a vintage Silverface Deluxe Reverb and a Fender outboard reverb.
The bass was a Danelectro Longhorn into a vintage Ampeg B15.
As far as the vocals go - The were real, no auto-tuning.
The singer also sings in another band I'm in and she has incredible range. We just played some Ennio Morricone material with operatic vocals
and she layed down several takes from which we picked our favorites.
Minimal comping of her tracks as well. She has performed the song with us live a couple of times since the recording and it sounded pretty much the same.

Good job!A good voice takes everything to the next level.
I am from Spain and the keyboard sound reminds me of the gypsys that used to play her flamenco jams in the street while a goat was dancing,LOL to earn some money, in a good way.
I wonder why the "flamenco" influences in this music, is it because of the movies recording location? Many were recorded in Almeria in the south of Spain(Andalucia) which is where flamenco music is mainly played.
Congrats!
