There is a 70's Fender solid state reverb "tank" for sale in my parts.
Can anyone advise on the surfability of these units ?
Anyonre ever use one ?
While the valve tanks are more highly regarded, if the price was right would any of you consider buying one ?
Thanks in advance.

I had a solid state St. George reverb for years and years...originally bought it for something like $35...it was a trooper!
it did not perform like a fender tube tank, but it was reverberation...

I assume you're talking about the SS black box reverb units?
Mike Rosado had one of those and I tried it out a little when I was up there.
Very spacey and splashy sounding, but lacks the warmth of tubes.
I used to see those on ebay going for like $100. Not sure if that's still the case, but if so, it'd be worth it as something to mess around with or as a backup, but it's no tube reverb unit.

I own two Fender SS Reverb units, mainly as a collector. I don't much like the quality of their 'verb especially compared against a good digital unit, and most especially compared against the Fender Tube Reverb unit.
They go for about $150-200 these days, and for the extra $150 anyone seriously into surf should go the $300-350 for a nice Reissue Tube unit.
