I don't usually mix my pleasure (Surf/Instro and The band) with my small guitar building business but I know I've mentioned this over the last two years with a few of you and wanted to share.
Today we (my company) finally released our first, all original design to the public. It has many unique parts and custom Lollar pickups. The inspiration for the guitar was many of my vintage Japanese guitars such as early Guyatones as well as vintage US made catalog guitars such as Stratotones and Silvertones.
I know, I know.......it needs a vibrato and we're testing some designs right now and will release one later on.
The guitar will be available for order in June and I have much to do before then but I just wanted to share.
You can also catch the guitar, me and my shop in the next episode of Brew Dogs on Esquire TV next wednesday the 27th if you're looking for some light entertainment.
Cheers,
Jeff

I feel like a distant uncle or something. I can guess how hard you worked on this, but I'd be underestimating it a lot, I'm sure. Congratulations!
I bet it sounds fantastic!

Thanks guys!
It's ben a long (fun but tiring) road and there's a longer one ahead but it's really satisfying to offer an original idea.
It makes me very happy you dig it.
Cheers,
Jeff

Neat Jeff. I can't wait to see that with a trem on it.
Did the balance when standing come out the way you wanted?
Edit: Also, what's the basic character of the Lollars?

A vibrato with the existing bridge would be rad, just trim down the tailpiece on the current bridge, that would be pretty sweet. It should sound really good as well, I'm a big fan of the tele bridge/saddle design. It transfers vibration very nicely.
You don't see too may original designs that don't suck, and this is one of the good ones.

It's super-cool, Jeff! It screams its Harmony/Danelectro genetic roots but looks original and not whimsical.
Can you tell us about the p'ups? Never seen any like them.

Will you be making a model with a talent knob? If I could dial more talent into my playing, that'd be great.

Play the blues, and limit yourself to three notes per bar. Instant talent knob(or inability mask). Oh, and bend one of those three notes.

Looks great Jeff! But hell, all of your stuff looks great! Congrats on a unique design. It flows really well. What are the specifics? (i.e. scale length, wiring/switching, woods, etc.)

Wow, thanks for the support everybody!
I know that many of you have quite discerning eyes and have specific opinions as to what you feel looks good or bad in guitar design so it's really rewarding to receive all the positive responses.
Yesterday was a flurry of activity for us as far as press releases and questions, web site updates etc. so I'm sorry I couldn't answer questions immediately.
Wes, The balance turned out great. All the local guys who have put the guitar on remark about it so I guess we got that right....
Jake, The cut down existing bridge is certainly a possibility to implement the vibrato. That would also be cool because that's our own design bridge that can also be used for Danelectros so it would be nice to use our own hardware but in the end, just like our previous testing, we'll use what works and sounds best but you can bet it won't just be some common vibrato stuck on there.
Kevin, I've been working on that talent knob/switch thing for over 30 years, LOL. If I had that secret I probably wouldn't be working my butt off anymore AND I'd be a better guitar player, Ha Ha.
JObeast and Bob, as far as the pickups - when we set out on this journey the tones we wanted to get were from some fairly esoteric guitars and there simply weren't any modern pickups that captured what we wanted. I had an idea for a large surface area, low, wide profile coil pickup and discussed these ideas with Jason Lollar, whom we have worked with for years and he was eventually able to wave his magic wand.
Sonically the pickups are very clear, bright, open sounding but also have a lot of output which pickups that have the above adjectives usually don't possess. I was really after the beautifully dynamic tones of my vintage Guyatones, Stratotones and such and we were able to get that and more. The guitar is actually much more versatile than what we projected, something we didn't expect. Kiwamu and I have used the prototype to track Tele -like tones with great success. With the sustain and output the guitar excels for slide playing which was also one of our goals.
In summation - the pickups are something new and unique for our guitar and our vision.
We'll post specs and more info including video and audio soon on our website
Thanks again for all your interest and kind words.
I really, really appreciate it.
Cheers,
Jeff

Jeff,
That is one great looking guitar. I think space age when I look at it. Can't wait to hear it. I am a big fan of Jason Lollar's pick ups too. It looks like my GAS is kicking in, vibrato or no vibrato.
