Surfbeat and Badger,

Not certain todays women would put up with the concept of bringing a date to an event being referred "drag". Radio advertising also include "Come stag or come drag." Different times indeed.

Happy Sunsets!

That's the point; it's not today, it was then, Big Grin
when not everyone got their grundies in a bunch over every little thing and the "Poor Me I've Been Offended" police weren't all over. Women who actually cared about such stuff wouldn't have been in my circle anyway (but they never seemed to mind being pandered to on "Ladies Night" or getting in for free at other places where there was still a cover).

Frankly, I think that's mostly been alot of empty rhetoric anyway (not you, those that spout it). I don't know of any women even decades my junior who would balk at a concert ticket where I paid an extra 33%, vs. standing their self-absorbed ground and popping for a full-price admission on their own. If there are such creatures, they probably have talk shows.

Tomorrow!!

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Finally ordered my copy from John's Website!

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Next scheduled book signing will be in La Jolla (near San Diego for the non-locals) on May 24th. They were talking about possibly having a surf band appear, too. More information as the date nears.

Any updates on the La Jolla event john?

Jeff(bigtikidude)

The upcoming book signing will be at D.G. Wills Books (La Jolla Cultural Society), 7461 Girard Ave., La Jolla, CA on Sunday, May 24th at 2 pm. I understand that there will be a band playing at 3 pm following my presentation (according to the bookstore's website, the band is called Soul Critter, but will apparently be playing surf music). There's a Maserati dealer next door if anyone is looking to buy a new car.

Listening to the Fiberglass Jungle interview, so cool!

When you have to shoot ... shoot! Don't talk.

I am very impressed by John Blair's demeanor, as exemplified in that Fiberglass Jungle interview (Thanks, JonPaul!)

John's passion and knowledge really shined through but he is not bent on sensationalizing surf or overtly romanticizing it.

For those of us who were not a part of the First Wave, we may look back in wonder how it all came together, but I really appreciated John's historical account of it. It is awfully refreshing to hear a subject matter expert reveal their own limitations of what they know without feeling compelled to make sh-t up.

I have heard/seen other interviews with John but the length of his interview with JonPaul really allowed the subject matter to stretch beyond the sound bite and really delve into various discussion points.

Essential listening, just as his book(s) are essential reading.

Thanks, John Blair!

Thanks John,
Will you be doing the presentation like you did at the LA library,
Or is this just a signing n band?

Jeff(bigtikidude)

It was a presentation, and this time it was a full house.
The content was similar to John's interview on "Fiberglass Jungle", but the crowd interaction was different, of course, so it was interesting and entertaining. John also offered some fabulous poetry before-hand, to a lady that thought she was coming to a poetry reading.

Bump:

John has 2 gigs coming up,in So. Cal.
Should he bring some with him to sell?

Jeff(bigtikidude)

I'll get one at the pier show next week if he has them.

Thank you John! I've just ordered my copy, this one goes to Switzerland Smile
cheers, Don

Is that the Ace Hardware/Crown Hardware on Coast Highway in Carona Del Mar?

Happy Sunsets!

No, it's the Ace on Harbor near Adams in Costa Mesa, but that other Ace store might have 'em as well. They're like Whack-A-Mole...they pop up in the least expected places.

Port of Sound record store is at that intersection. Lots of vinyl records, including surf!
