Permalink Beach Boys...Warmth Of The Sun

Yikes!!! I just looked at the presale (release date is May 22) for the latest Beach Boys best of/anthology/collection/hits/compilation cd on amazon.com. They make this seem like one very important albumn with all the remaining BBs gathering at Brians home to sort out and personally select the turnes for the ump-teenth best of cd. The interview clips are interesting and include Brian, Al, Bruce and Mike done seperately. Ok so I take a look at th track list of the "difinative" best of Warmth Of The Sun and was less than excited. While the list includes some remixed versions and good songs that get little airplay several of their signature songs were left off the list. It would be impossible to satisfy even the most casual BB fan with a well rounded collection, but there are plent of them already on the market which would be a better choice. Endless Summer is my personl choice.
Sorry for the rant...I'm in the mood to write today....

Happy Sunsets!

I'm a BB fan, and I will stick to the ORIGINAL songs and albums....yeah

I am not a huge Beach Boys fan, but I admit to them being very Important in rock and roll and somewhat in the Surf genre.
I only have the X-mas cd, the Pet sounds box set, and maybe 1 2fer cd.
but cant recall which 2 at this moment.
I've always toyed with the Idea of getting the Beach Boys Box set 5 cds I think.
is this a good collection to get?
what are the down points of it?
is it still in print?
if so where is the cheapest place to find it?

thanks,

I have always been a Beach Boy fan. In fact I had never heard of surfing until I heard one of their songs.
So I just checked the New album out, and it has a couple of songs I have never heard before on it. I thought I had all the beach boys tunes. But I have to say, that the ones on this new album that I have never heard, I wish I still had never heard them.
I say that all the good songs they made has already been presented. duh...It's like bringing out a new Elvis album. If the song was good in the first place it would have been releashed at the time of recording.
So this is just another album to try and gather in more money on the pretense of it's importance. An effort to keep the band alive, (if you will allow that idea).

just my humble opinion.

Huge Beach Boys fan here but I would never consider this one, I have all of them I want anyway. I bought SMILE and was disappointed with all of the new material. There was a reason that some of that music was not released earlier. I don't blame them for trying though. Mike Love has become quite litigious in recent years, hope I don't get sued for defamation.

Question All of my Beach Boys albums are CD editions with the exception of "Surfin' U.S.A.", "Concert" and "All Summer Long" (...which are vinyl LPs).

Count me in on this comment, too (does this make it a movement?).
I have most of their vinyl through the mid-70's - LPs and 45s.
I do like my recent CD of Pet Sounds, though, with both mono and stereo of each song. And Brian's own release of Smile was long-awaited and came out fantastic.

Jeff, I believe you refer to Good Vibrations: Thirty Years Of The Beach Boys. The 5 disk set is the best bang for your buck for BB anthologies. It is worth getting, even for the casual fan. There are so many good tracks on it and it really represents their career well. You can probably score it for around 20-30 bucks on the Amazon market place.

Ny uncle collected almost every album from the Boys, and this is what he listens to most.

thank you sir.
