Recently I downloaded a heavy psychedelic MP3 version of Pipeline from :
http://www.emp3world.com/to_download.php?id=63213
The musicians are listed as "Unknown Artist".
It is very professional sounding recording.
I would like to buy this groups albums if they have released any.
Does anyone know who this group is?
Thanks,
SurfCat

Cool! Thanks, surfraptor!
Does anyone know if Dick Dale & Stevie Ray Vaughan did any other surf recordings together or was "Pipeline" the only one?
Thanks,

"Pipeline" was it, done for the soundtrack of BACK TO THE BEACH in the '80's (you see 'em doing it onstage briefly in the film) -- one of those "old meets new" gimmicks popular at the time. I'm not an SRV fan by any means, but at the time, it was cool to have DD cuttin' wax again...

When I bought the Dick Dale, King of the Surf Guitar cd (Rhino) I thought that was THE killer track...
Loved Walk Don't Run, Wipe Out & Pipeline at the time but that cd really started my surfguitar obsession.
Rest is history...

You can find a version of the pipeline mentioned above in a Stevie Ray Vaughan Music book called Lightnin Blues 1983-1987
2nd edition Hal Leonard.

when I was first getting into surf I thought it was really cool.
now that I am more of a surf snob, I dont dig is quite so much anymore.
I can listen to it and not barf, but its not something I want to hear all the time.

imho, It's one of the worst things DD has ever done, and it's one of the worst things SRV has ever done, and I like both DD and SRV mucho grande.
that said, you can't really complain about a movie and two guitar greats bringing surfmusic to the masses, in one form or another.

I always thought Pipeline was the weakest tract on this CD. Even weaker than Mr. Peppermint man. Still, it has some of my favorite versions of Dick Dale songs. Banzai Washout, Nightrider, The Wedge to name a few.

I like traditional versions, but have to admit that I like this version, too. Mainly because it is so different. Pipeline is a great song, but it gets played a lot. Variety is the spice of rife.
Leaving aside the issue that just about everybody does this live - but few bands record their "standard covers" - I've got about 15 commercial versions accumulated. I can listen to any of them with pleasure. Some of them are better than others. Three or four are more or less in this DD/SRV vein. Two are acoustic. A couple, one very trad, one not, can only be described as whimsical.
I realize that my collection is not exactly world class and that 15 must seem like a might small number in some quarters!
