First Surf band, and for me, first band ever thanks to SG101.

All started over the sale of a pedal I posted here. Wound up selling to a drummer who didn't live too far away(Murph here on the 101). He casually mentioned he'd been talking about a low key meet up to play some tunes, drink some beer and whatnot with another SG101'er in the area (morphball). Said I was welcome to come along for whatever part I wanted - play some, drink beer, or just hang out and shoot the breeze. Could not have been a more welcoming situation for someone who never imagined playing with anyone else - never mind imagining a band.

Learning to play a few songs all the way through turned into a few more and the next thing I knew we had our first gig pictured here. We don't get out a ton; been a couple 2, 3, 4 gigs a year for the last few years. Best thing that's happened in the last several years, no doubt about it!

And I ALWAYS look forward to the next opportunity to see you guys! I do hope that it's soon!!

In the early 80s, around 10th grade, I was in a two piece band called The Seersuckers, since we had found two matching seersucker blazers at a garage sale. I played my old Slingerland kit and he played a Sears Silvertone guitar through the amp in the case. I don't think we could really be called a surf band, per se, but we played original instrumentals, Wipe Out and Pipeline. We never played anywhere except my basement.

The SpeNerds
Alaska's Premier Instrumental Surf Trio!

My 1st Surf Band: The Tube Sharks (1995-2004) on bass. With inspiration from then Bay Area bands, The Torpedoes, The Berzerkers and The Woodies, I formed this band with Tom Knezevich on guitar and Jordan Hosier on drums. Most gigs and shows were in the Santa Cruz CA area. The band has individual cuts on Deep Eddy's Big Wave Riders [2005] and KFJC's Battle of The Surfing bands [2004].

Historians, If you have our demo CD, it is very rare! Phil's Dirt's review may still exist on Reverb Central. Smile
