I still have a 99 cent LP on the Guest Star label that has "Delano Soul Beat" and "Latin Soul" by the "Original Surfaris," two really fantastic sides that turned me onto surf music. There are two other great cuts, mislabeled as by "The Beach Boys." One is a version of "Vesuvius" but its called "Surfin' Dance" on the record, I guess because the group calls out "Surf!" during part of it. The other is labled as "Surfin'" but it's actually a version of Torchula (Tequila.) And it's not the same version I've heard by the Original Surfaris. I presume these last two are by another Tony Hilder/Bob Hafner group, but I don't know which one. It doesn't appear to be the New Dimensions, The Sentinels or The Surf Teens. Anybody have any ideas? These are some really good cuts. Many thanks...

There are a couple of threads about this album, unfortunately one is ruined by Kman1 and missing posts from Zak.

Probably the best one is this one:

mountvernonmusic, Welcome to SG101!

That's the kind of record I'd like to stumble into at a yard sale this spring. Nice!

What is the actual name of this album? Would be good to put it in the thread title for future searches.

Brian, from a quick search on this comp, the title is just "Surfing" based on the label's item # G1433.

Lol, that's not a very good term to search for here...

I suppose we could point out the infamous Tor-Chula thread.

I think there are three old versions of Tor-Chula known, the original by the Sentinals, the one by the (Original) Surfaris, and one by Bob Vaught & the Renegaids. I kind of suspect the last here. I'd be happy to support identification of the version in any way needed. PM me.

Hi Everyone,
Just to clarify; The album in question features a tune by The New Dimensions, entitled; "Surfin Dance." The selection was stolen from our master tapes and included in the album under the group name; "The Beach Boys." Unfortunately, we were never able to track down the thieves responsible, nor were we able to file an injunction or law suit. Welcome to the record business... My best, Art Guy, Drummer, The New Dimensions.

Glad you're still hanging on the big blue marble with us Art. I had your Best Of... going the other day & the Mrs. did a jaw-drop when I told her how "old" you guys were back then. She really enjoyed the raw energy.

I'm still gonna do some yard-sale trips in the residential area here that are strolling distance. Ya just never know.
Cool
