hahahaha sorry, I forgot ... not everybody is in love with vintage Fender amps with beautiful matching cab and don't care about the new ones with 1.21 GW of power!
I will! and maybe drink all the beer at the diner. glup!

So to clarify:
Lorenzo, your speaker version is without aluminum dome? (Which I would prefer too)
And the difference between the Quilter version and the Eminence version is the VOICE COIL and not the dome?
The Eminence and the Quilter both have aluminum domes. The difference is the voice coil.
If you want the same speaker without the aluminum dome (copper voice coil version) you can find it here:
http://tpa-az.com/page11.htm
This speaker comes in 12" and 15" and has 4 and 8 ohm versions.

This is a very timely thread- I'm currently having a tone ring cab built, and was about to pull the trigger on a Eminence Commonwealth 15", but I'm holding off to hear the report (especially used with your Showman, though I also use a Tone Block sometimes).

alright ok the road finally using my 63 reverb tank + tone block quilter + eminence speaker. the result is very strange to my ear. this speaker is powerful at my back and holds any volume, but it is dark. i kept the tone on the tank at 10 and the tone on the quilter at 10 and still not bright as the jbl. on my jazzmaster i have 1 meg pots. so yes, you can hear a difference. this is where probably the quilter version of the speaker comes in.
at the same time and for my previous experiences with solid state amps working with the fender tank, i think the whole set up works better using a reverb pedal rather than an analog tube unit. tonight i will use the topanga with which i can can brighter than the reverb tank enhancing the drip by the way.
i will tell you more tomorrow...

Looking forward to more reports, but I think I'm pulling the trigger on the Quilter version, based on Lorenzo's and dannylectro's input, as I mostly plan to run this with a tube head and tank, and would want something as close to a D130F as possible. (I've actually got a separate cab with an EVM 15L that would be used with the Tone Block anyway.) Many, many thanks from both me and my lower back, guys!

man i am also going to use it mostly with showman head and tank, but remember that the original jbls were without the F. i have regulat d130's in my showman cab. and if i play the showman on this eminence it sounds like them!
I said i tried the quilter... with the showman i can reach another level of brightness...

I have been experimenting with some older Solid State amps and I find the same thing Lorenzo. My Reverb tank works much better with my tube amps whereas I can get a better, wet drip using a pedal with the solid state amps.
Please keep us posted.
Cheers,
Jeff

Ah, gotcha. It seems one can't go wrong with either one of these then, and there's only a $10 difference for the aluminum voice coil preference (I'm really hesitant about calling it an "upgrade"... it seems the only reason Quilter did this was to warm up pedal steel tones a tiny bit; this is probably negligible with a normal guitar awash in reverb).

Yes, yes!
I'm sure many here would find a video of the seminar fascinating.

guys this is normal. the whole thing will be professionally recorded and edited and will find its place on the web. it will be the one and only useful reverb video ever done, not the usual bullshit where some guy tries a strat on his blues amp...

Get the Quilter 15", you won't be sorry. It's an amazing speaker. Even better than a real JBL to me. The sound is tighter with less flub in the bass.

All right then, I'm going for it! Those Quilter guys do know something about tone, so I'm sure those tweaks aren't just superficial.

ok I am here I still have to play but I have set up quilter and topanga. the result is cold. it is not a prob of the speaker is that there would be needed a preamp like the boss bassman pedal to warm it up. too much stuff plugged in for an anti-pedal user like me so speaker good, all digital bad. need the showman head to be alright. tonight we are in a different kind of location and I do not have the treble lack problems of yesterday. today is sounds brighter.
anyway I will play with this all and let you know my opinion.

Lorenzo, thanks for the reports.
For the seminar - do you happen to have two identical single 15 cabs?
That could be used to compare the Eminence to a JBL, assuming you have a known good JBL.

I have only one 2x15 cabinet so that comparison would be difficult.
anyway the speaker in the past 1 days has worked very well. tonight (just finished the show) we were on the mountain, fucking crazy 300 people dancing. fully amplified stage and mega volume but tho only prob I had was with the quilter amp. on some frequencies it does not work alright completely to me, especially when I go on the bridge pickup only let's say "dick dale" style. I am missing the Showman push at my back. but the speaker was great in the end.
