Permalink Dick Dale Signing

New Topic

Dick Dale will be playing in Northampton MA. this August and I am thinking of going. If I bring in a Strat pickguard what are the chances that he will sign it for me. This would be for me and not to resell on Ebay or any other place.

I heard he usually signs things for a small fee after the show.

Go for it! I saw him sign them right in front of me, but he charges for it. He charges to sign everything. Just for the record, I don't begrudge him for that at all.

I settled for him signing some records instead, but I should've asked him to sign a spare Strat guard I have. If I had, it would be framed and hanging on my wall. Next time for sure!

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Noel - Why not frame the record covers? I picked up a bunch of record frames at "Michaels" during one of the sales. I have seen them at some of the major CD shops as well.

I am not obsolete, I am RETRO.... Cool

As Noel said, by all means go for it. Thumbs Up

Get back by the merch table early if that's possible. In Madison last year anyway, this is LANA's turf, and she will rack & stack folks from those who're just browsing to those who really want to get something signed. On the good side, he doesn't just sign a bunch of stuff randomly in a hotel room and then lay them on the table. His policy, per his Admiral, is that if he signs something it's going to be personal.

Enjoy! Cool

Dick signed all my DD music stuff ,all personalized ..no charge . I would bring his latest cd or whatever ...not too much stuff. Guitars or pickguards..I dont know...if he thinks you are just doing it for resale he will probabaly want $

I really do not mind paying a fee unless its in the league of what those sports guys charge. It will not be for resale and if he wants to put my name down with his I have no problem with that. If he has items to sell that he would sign I would go for that as well.

DD sign's guitars, pickguards, CD's. pictures--whatever for a small fee. I have 4 signed stickers and a signed CD that I got from him. We saw him sign a guy's strat for the same small fee. Haven't framed anything yet but the stickers are still on their paper! CD gets listened to! Thumbs Up

Enjoying the surf,sun and sand!!

He didn't charge me anything to sign this.

He signed my moms original Surfer's Choice album back in '07 for free. His reaction when he saw the album was priceless. He picked it up, threw it down on the table and said "oh s***, would you look at that!" Rock

MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale. New EP Louder Than Life available on bandcamp and website. Taking guitar lessons from Jimmy Dale.

Dick Dale signed al my Originl 1960's Albums for free when he played in Zürich / Switzerland a few years back.
He probably did not expect that someone in Switzerland owns his early recordings. He was very pleased and showed them to the other band members and told stories about every LP.
a beautiful moment Yes

DD signed my truss rod cover plate (for no charge), taking great care to sign such a small piece of plastic. There were photos of him for sale that he would sign. He was very gregarious and a pleasure to meet.

All,
I make it a point to buy merch after a show if I'm interested; so I have a lot of DD tee shirts and some posters. Anything I have that is DD signed was signed when he did it gratis.
On general principle, I just won't pay for a signature. Perhaps that comes from knowing that signatures are worthless - especially on guitars. Any reputable dealer will tell you that. (But they will market the guitar with the signature as a "selling point").

I paid to see the artist at the show. I really don't need to be giving them a "tip" at the shows end. Buying merch is OK if I want it; but paying additional $$$ for an autogragh is (again, to me) - Plain Silly.

I last saw DD in NJ a year before hurricane Sandy. As I recall, he had nothing in merch that I didn't already have. So no $$ for merch; no $$ for signatures from me that time.,
All this - my opinion, of course
