Lorenzo "Surfer Joe" Valdambrini
(www.surfmusic.net)

Lorenzo, will there be a jam session again one of the nights?

Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin)
"Postcards from the Scrapyard" Vol. 1, 2 & 3 NOW available on various platforms!
"Chaos at the Lobster Lounge" available as LP and download on Surf Cookie Records!

Why do you ask this?
Jam session is a nightmare. Everybody knows this.

Twang cheers!

I guess it depends on how drunk you are. And whether you're on or off stage. There probably is only one combination that works.

Jokes aside, I talked with some of the guys from Berlin about preparing some songs, so that we can play together. I'm definetly not going on stage to "work it out while doing it." I've been there and I'm not going back. The way is not the goal; at least not in surf music.

Be prepared for about 10 classic surf songs then it works.

I remember a 123 minutes version of Maleguena/DarkEyes/... last year.
In most jam sessions you can play simply E and F chords, this works for the most.
Never drink before playing! Drink while playing is better.

The way is the goal for the whole life my friend.

Twang cheers!

Yes, prepare some songs. Please only in E and F. Better only E.

Twang cheers!

Okay then, Wipe Out in E.

I play Wipe Out only in M.

This is the only song which is not playable in E.

It's called Wipe Out, so it's got to be in W not M. Did you turn your keyboard upside down?

No, no, no! No Surf songs allowed at the jam this year! Nothing must be prepared ahead of time! No conventional rock instruments, either! All must be versions of boy band songs done in the style of Middle Ages and Renaissance, using proper period performance techniques and instruments. Lorenzo will have an abundant supply of sackbuts, crumhorns, rebecs, cornetts, bandoras, rauschpfeiffen, racketts and hurdy gurdys available. It's gonna get craaaazy!!!

I had no idea there would be hurdy gurdys and boy band music

This changes everything
