Preston,
Yes, plenty of interviews.
It's probably a good thing they started this years ago as people's memories can fade or distort.
There is a good percentage of the documentary focused on Tommy Tedesco which is understandable with his son's involvement in the movie.

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. It's an interesting insight into how the music industry works. To think there was a time I honestly believed that the bass player of the band played the bass on the records...

It must have been amazing to play your instrument on a song, then have something like River Deep Mountain High come out of the monitors at you!

Many of the comments after the interview are very interesting, especially the ones referring to old record liner notes crediting the "Wrecking Crew" long before Carol says Hal Blaine coined the name. Ah well, I'm in awe of what Carol can do with a bass, and there are conflicts over what happened in other music documentaries, too. Watch "Twenty Feet From Stardom" and "Muscle Shoals" for two completely different viewpoints on race relations.

Having seen an early cut at one of Denny's screenings, all I can say is, I believe you'll love it more than you can imagine. I came in with high hopes, and every one was far exceeded by the film.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

That Muscle Shoals film is great. The comment about the Allman brothers:
"when we took a black guy out to dinner there were a few rednecks that hated us. But that was nothing compared to when we took a hippy to dinner - EVERYONE hated us!"

In my mind, if you are a really good musician you can be famous. But it doesn't seem to work like that. The really good musicians are anonymous and the musically untalented are famous, ie the Monkees...

Launch date moved up to January 21 in Bend, OR followed by Toronto in late February. Whew! Finally! check the website, pretty impressive! Trailer opens with Beach Boys and is heavy with instrumental surf tracks and Carol is in the trailer explaining how she came up with the intro to The Beat Goes On.

Happy Sunsets!

I have tickets for my daughter and I to see The Wrecking Crew film on Monday, April 13, at 7:15 PM at the ArtsQuest SteelStacks theater in Bethlehem, PA. We'll be there early to eat dinner.

I know there's a few more of us who live close enough to come to this show, and Corradina and I would love to see you there.

If you can come, tickets can be ordered tickets here.

I caught it, happened to be showing at my local one-screen theater. That was a surprise!

Definitely not too much of a surf angle (not a mention of Jerry Cole for instance) but still really interesting. I was pretty familiar with the wrecking crew and their work but it really blew my fiancee's mind how much they played on. Was worth the watch.

Storm Surge of Reverb: Surf & Instro Radio

Saw it yesterday - WOW, this film was mesmerizing to an old guy like me who grew up listening to the music these guys so skillfully played.

Actually, there were a few nods to surf music - Al Casey was in the film, The Marketts were mentioned and there were flashes of some notable surf LP album covers with "Out of Limits" as background music along with a short segment on the T-Bones' "No Matter What Shape (You're Stomach's In)", which was a radio hit back in the day and was used in an Alka-Seltzer commercial that I must have seen a thousand times on TV and was added to our (The Mariners) set list in 1966 right after the record was released.

If you are a fan of late '50's and'60's music on any level, this film is a must see. When the DVD/Blu-Ray (hopefully) becomes available, I'm ordering mine on the first day.

Ditto. Even my wife got to be a fan because Tommy's column in GP was literally the first thing I turned to regardless of who was on the cover.

That was always such a fantastic and entertaining column. I used to page to that one quickly as well

Pre-ordering for the Wrecking Crew DVD and Blu-Ray is now available.

It's a special edition that included outtakes that weren't in the theater version. Here's the info with different options (and other stuff for sale). I just ordered mine.

Just got my advance download of the extra "players'" songs that will be included with the DVD set. These are gonna be lots of fun (and there's a kick-ass rendition of the 007 theme).

An update today from the website to those who've pre-ordered/pledged & will be getting the soundtrack with the DVD.

Pledgers!

Happy Monday.

Here are some more song additions to the tracks that have been
approved and will appear on the upcoming The Wrecking Crew Soundtrack > release.
All of these incredible songs were recorded with the same group of
amazing musicians:

Many more to come!

Lets Go- The Routers
Donna- Ritchie Valens
Baja- Jack Nitzsche
Out Of Limits- The Marketts
Little War- Suzi Jane Hokom
Julie Julie Do You Love Me – Bobby Sherman
Summer Breeze- Seals & Croft

Very much looking forward to this. Besides the movie, I would imagine there is a metric boatload of work just getting releases for all the extra music. But it appears the snowball has gained sufficient momentum.

Great movie if you are interested in '60s music and the L.A. studio musicians that made much of it happen. What impressed me is what a factory it was. This was the place where art met craft and commerce, and this was a hard working bunch. Beyond whatever glamor there was, it was a grind, and yet these pros were able to keep up an incredibly high standard even on a lot of music they admittedly often had little artistic regard for.

Some observations:
Glen Campbell was well regarded among some very accomplished musicians for his ideas and ear. I mean, what kind of ear did this guy have that a non-reader could hang with them. Apparently, he could hear a tune through once or twice and nail it.

Universal admiration to Brian Boy Genius Wilson. They loved his sessions because he was focused, prepared, and he challenged them to do their best.

I think they are surprised that music they considered mere disposable pop would gain such longevity and become iconic recordings in many cases.

I think everyone here will love this movie.

I got a kick out of his pretty candid comments after the initial sojourn as a songwriting frontman, that he could make more money & have a helluva lot more fun doing sessions. Laughing
