Permalink 1971 Fender Pro Reverb - No Longer For Sale

New Topic

Swore I’d never do this, but it’s time to pass my beloved 1971 Pro Reverb on to a new owner. I lucked into this amp several years ago and have used it to gig and record, but I’ve not played out in over a year and this thing sounds too good to sit in my basement.

It’s no secret that Silverface Fenders are the best deal going for a handwired amp, and the Pro Reverb is my favorite of the vintage Fenders. The compact 2x12 size has plenty of push while still being portable, and it sounds strong at any setting. They’re the ultimate pedal platform, in my opinion, because they provide an incredible base clean tone to build on, but they can also grit up quite nicely in the right venue. I’ve had the privilege of playing outdoor concerts through this amp, and finally getting to air it out with some natural crunch was truly fun!

Pro Reverbs have a stronger sound than a Deluxe, and they have a warmth and character that the strident Twin lacks. I typically play single coils and use a clean boost to goose the front end just a touch, which adds a little extra clarity and punch for single-note work.

This particular amp is in incredible condition for a vintage amp. Overall the tolex is in great shape, with some light, honest wear on the corners. The faceplate still has a nice shine, and it carries no smoke or bar odor whatsoever. I swapped in shielded reverb cords to cut down on noise, and the original Oxfords were played out so it’s currently sporting a pair of Weber California 12s.

It will come with the original 2-button footswitch, reverb cables and Fender-supplied packet with the owner’s manual, schematic and catalog (very cool!) and a newer Fender cover.

For potential collectors - I can't tell whether the grill cloth is original or replacement. Given how clean it is, I'd assume it's been replaced, but with the rest of the amp in such clean condition I wouldn't be surprised to find it's original. To be safe, I'd assume it's a very good, period-correct replacement.

Decided I'm not ready to part ways with it yet - KEEPING!

Matt -- That's funny... I plugged in yesterday to make sure everything was in good order and decided to do exactly that!

I'm not ready to part ways with this amp. My Dyna-equipped Gretsch and this SF Pro are THE sound I hear in my head. It took me forever to find this setup, and I need to hang onto it.

Thanks for talking some sense to my crazy!

No problemo! I'm glad you're keeping it. I REGRET selling my SF pro reverb BADLY! These amps are golden!
