Hello John,

I need two copies. Will you have them reserved for me at the SJSF or
should I order them?? Do you already know the sales price??

Kathy still has that silverburst sparkle Strat. Her custom Jag is no longer in her possession. Also, the only recording she made was of a tune written for her by Mel Taylor of The Ventures. It was never released commercially and exists only as an acetate demo. She is backed by members of Eddie/Showmen on the demo.

Wow, I didn't even know she is still alive. I'd love to hear that acetate!

Definitely getting a copy for myself.

Preordered 3 weeks ago!
This is like a window to the early years, so cool.

Either. The tangible; something that's felt.
Probably a song in there somewhere. Back to my coffee and John's book. So looking forward to that.

Reedier, everybody: the book will be at the Surfer Joe Summer Festival. Whoever comes can buy it here.

YOU CAN RESERVE THE BOOK.
Carrying these books is not easy. So IF WE KNOW IN ADVANCE who wants it we can arrange more easily what to do...

If you want to have info and eventually reserve the book feel free to write me at info@surferjoemusic.com

I will try to arrange anything possible with John to have the most copies at the Surfer Joe Festival (for those of you coming to the event of course).

Very cool.

Here's another image from the new book, "Southern California Surf Music, 1960-1966," to be published in two weeks, on April 6. This is the site of the Rinky Dink Ice Cream Parlor at the corner of Main St. and Balboa Blvd. (photo taken in 1975). It was here in 1959 that Dick Dale brought his music to the Balboa peninsula. It wasn't surf music yet. An electrical fire destroyed the interior of the Rinky Dink in the fall of 1960 after Dick had moved his band to the Rendezvous Ballroom, only two blocks away. The Rinky Dink became an Orange Julius franchise for many years. The building still stands but is now a restaurant.

I had been to that Orange Julius many times in the 70s and 80s.
Cool to know it was the Rinky Dink ice cream parlor.

Okay, put a plug for John's new book here http://www.tunefan.com/surf.htm

Will look to order a copy (can John sign them?), and add it to others I like (incl. of course John's masterwork The Illustrated Discography of Surf Music (1961-1965).
