I just bought this guitar the other day, but it's missing the vibrato bar.
As you can see in the close up, the tremolo system is very similar to that of a Fender Jaguar/Jazzmaster. Any ideas about what to use as a replacement bar? Would a Bigsby bar work? Guitarfetish.com also sells a complete replacement tremolo for Teisco-type guitars, but my first choice would be to just add a bar, rather than replace the whole thing.
Also, I'm wondering if this guitar would handle 12-gauge strings. I don't know how strong they are. Would the tension be too much for it?
If anyone has any expertise on these old Japanese guitars, it'd be much appreciated! Thanks!

Ah! Looks cool! I like those kind of guitars.
I had a few similar japan cheapos…
They are not made for 12 gauge unfortunately. You can give them a set of 12-50 strings, but the neck feeling and playability will be not good.
My experiences. Because mostly the necks are bad!
There is a truss rod, you can work with it.
I had several Teiscos, Arias, Guyatones, no names… sold em all...
The Guyatones are a bit better than others, the expensive Guyas are good!
I still have one good sounding Guyatone.
Advice: Do not waste your worthful lifetime with this guitar.
But maybe it works with a trem arm for you. Maybe you are happy with it. If this will happen, we are all happy with you.

Don't really know whether this would work or not, but my first idea was to see if the hole is bigger than that of an average Strat bar. If so, get a Strat bar and two fitting screw nuts. Put one of the nuts on the bar, then stick the bar through the hole and screw on the second nut from below.

Jeff Senn recommended I put this complete assembly on mine, as he recently installed one on Kiwamu's Teisco, and it works great.

Wow, that guitar looks fabulous! I think the tremolo you have on there might be the same one that Guitarfetish offers. Can it be placed over top of a routed hole (as mine has) where the old tremolo was? I'm just unsure about the fit.
Does your guitar take 12-gauge strings?

This easily replaced my original one, as seen below. But it looks like what's left of yours and the base of the new one are the same. I have D'Addario 10 flats on mine. Sounds great! Real dirty.

The guitarfetish replacement may not easily cover your whole original vibrato rout. You could make it work but keep in mind that it may not cover the hole completely.
You can get actual Teisco style vibrato arms from this ebay seller but they don't have any listed at the moment. I'd bet they have some listed in the next few weeks as they usually have them available.

hangtenhangman - Your hardware is not actual Teisco hardware so there may be some drilling required to make an arm fit, maybe not.
