Thanks everyone. We just had our last dinner with Henry as a civilian. We won't share another meal with him for a long time. I'll post a couple photos later.

We're home. Henry's sworn in and on his way to Chicago, and the rest of his life. This is the moment in his life I wanted for him from the beginning - to choose his own path, follow it with determination, and succeed at what he chooses to to. He's on his way. New fork in life, and obviously well-prepared to be on his way Dad. Good job! I hope he just can be a stickler for basic hygiene & personal sanitation for a couple months. Basic in the weather typically found this time of year can be conducive to catching some nasty bugs. Good luck Henry! Here's Henry standing between the Navy and American flags after being sworn in. We have to cut a still out of the video we took during the swearing-in ceremony. —This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got. |

As a veteran (US Army), I want to congratulate Henry for his decision to serve our country and thank him for his service. And congrats to you, Noel, for raising a son with values. Maximum kudos to you both! —Jack Booth The Mariners (1964-68, 1996-2005) |

I haven't had much time on a computer since I left for Great Lakes Navy Base. Thank you to everyone who has sent congratulations to Henry, here and in other ways and places. Here are several pictures from his Pass In Review. Over 800 sailors graduated that day. We won't see Henry again for about a month, and then for only about ten days before he reports to his ship. Wow Noel, that's great, and congratulations to you, your Navy family and especially to Henry. Strong family resemblance and honor. ed —Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps? |

First, Congratulations to Henry and, as pointed out, raising a son with some values - good job! So... not being a squid, the first ribbon in his portrait is the Nat'l Defense Service Medal. Got it, he's just graduated basic and his serving and now has alot of brothers & sisters forever. What's the 2nd award for Dad? Was he an honor grad or something? I've been riding a whirlwind of activity and emotion. After I returned from the Summit, Henry came home for a short leave before he reports to his ship. Every try to fit everything you ever wanted to say to someone into a few hours? I didn't get anything near everything done I had planned. Then at 5:15 AM this morning I watched my son, the sailor, the grown man, go through airport security and turn out of sight. I, we, won't see him for a long time. I'm so proud of him I could bust. But there's a hole in my daily life which he used to fill. I have a lot of songs to learn, an interview to finish, reviews to write, and friends and family to spend time with. Life will slowly return to normal. But it will be a different normal than I'm used to. I'm smiling so much as I write this, thinking of Henry, that my face hurts. —This is Noel. I have shared your emotions for the last 18 years. There is no solution but to just get over "stage fright" and dump your feelings, or toss them in occasionally in an email or phone call, as you get them. They are appreciated on the other end, trust me on that. World events and his duty location may put you on a roller-coaster, both ups & downs. This is normal. A new normal to be sure, but expected nonetheless. Tip: Be sparing with what specifics you share about him or his duty status or location on social media. I mean that. —Wes DISCLAIMER: The above is opinion/suggestion only & should not be used for mission planning/navigation, tweaking of instruments, beverage selection, or wardrobe choices. |
