this may be sacrilegious to say, but has anyone actually confirmed Dale played gauge 16 strings? As someone who has experimented with heavy gauge strings, I just find it hard to fathom. |

I will say, made me check tour dates on his website. Looks like Sir Dick is back in Raleigh NC end of April @ Lincoln Theater (again), along with a whole mess of dates across the country thru the summer. Yeah, it's the same old Dick Dale - but on the other hand, it appears he's feeling pretty good, which I'm glad to see. Still full of Pi$$ and Vinegar. —"You can't tell where you're going if you don't know where you've been" |

I love Dick Dale, and interview with him is always interesting. There's always a lot of energy that comes over when compared with some modern musos/celebs. His 16 foot boat had a main sail and a jib, not a jig. I guess the interview mis-heard. And a yacht is any boat with a cabin and a pointy bow (that's the front bit). A ship is any boat with a foremast (a mast on the bow). The classification of a boat isn't dependent on its size, but maybe things are different in the States. US navigation rules are completely different to the rest of the world! I have a 21 foot yacht, but he's right about it sounding posh - so I call it a sailboat. Helps prevent expectations being raised! I'd be interested in seeing the exhibitions. — |
