Well, my take on it anyhow. Closer to the well known Lively Ones' version than the Ventures. And even they, at least on some later live recordings/videos, seem to use Nokie's original Venture's triplet phrase. Personally I love the simplicity of their original take on the song. Maybe because it is more "surfy" than 'spudnicky.' -don —Still rockin' after all these years! |

Thank you all for your kind and encouraging comments. I first learned to play this music back in the early `60s when it was new. And then, as so often it seems happens in life, I "moved on." A career, family -- all that. And my musical focus moved on too. I forgot. Oh so sadly, I forgot for a time how truly great this music is. Fresh. New. Even now, all these years later. Now retired and with the time to do whatever I want (Yea for that! Why did I have to wait so long!) So yes, that enthusiasm is there, and I suppose that it shows. I truly love this music! Love playing it. Love sharing it. And love seeing other players -- many with younger and more nimble fingers -- having that same enthusiasm and doing things with the music that I, today, can only dream about. I do look forward to continuing this series. Sharing the things I learned over the years, and in turn listening to, and learning from, all of you. Grazie! -don —Still rockin' after all these years! I never thought about it in those terms, but it is a good description. You are right! And without me realizing it that is so for my approach to most surf. Languid waves more than crashing! Still rockin' after all these years! |

Don, it's funny your story is very similar to mine and I guess a lot of people on here. Ever since I retired 6 years ago I picked up playing guitar again and have soaked myself into it. Keep up the terrific videos! Looking forward to watching more. http://www.reverbnation.com/nucleusaccumbensstimulation Last edited: Feb 22, 2015 11:11:02 |
