How big are they? More than 6" across the back? Less? It's hard to find this info online, only Jensen has diagrams of speaker dimensions.

I've used a Swamp Thang for the past three years playing guitar in a rockabilly band. I liked it so much I bought a second one for my back up amp. They have a nice clear as a bell 3-D thump on the low end and it takes QUITE a bit to get the speaker to roll or fart. The high end is also quite nice. Bordering on chime-y.

Can anyone point me in the direction of decent Swamp Thang samples? I have a twin cab that I'm considering upgrading....

I loaded the Swamp Thang in my DRRI for a while, but I didn't like the combination very much. I think this speaker is overkill for that amp. Though I still have the Swamp Thang in this KMD cab, I don't use it in any other amps. I think I came to the conclusion that the speaker is a bit too much on the dark side for some of the uses I needed out of it. But then, I've got JBLs and EVs in most of my amps, so how can you beat that? I think the Swamp Thing is still a great lower-cost alternative to those iconic speakers.

I also own lots of JBL loaded cabs, but I really don't want to risk damaging one of those precious speakers. So the 1x12" standard speaker cab is really appealing (oh my, the GAS). Also it is a great opportunity to get a lightweight amp/speaker for every occasion, not only surf related. So I guess I'll simply wait until I find something appropriate.
Regarding the speaker I am torn between the Swamp Thang and the Texas Heat.

Lots of "Great for backup" comments... I'm curious to hear if anyone has actually ~had~ to use this as a backup to their main amp during a gig going back to 2009 when this started?

I did see Doug's observation of another band (Surf Rockets) as the last post on the first page, but I don't think I've seen any others chime in with "saved the day" news.

Along the same lines, how many people also bring 2nd guitars (not because there are songs that call for it), and effects, and cables for the sole purpose of 'just in case'?

And how many of you add (or use instead) a Voltage Regulator + Line Conditioner every time you play?

I'm not nor , so please don't take it that way... truly just curious how far people take 'belt + suspenders' insurance policy for gigs.
