Well, itâs pretty obvious, but everyone knows that Verbtones is Senot Brev spelled backwards. And after a busy day performing surf music for teeming hoards of screaming teens hereâs nothing thatâll quench that honest thirst like a tall glass of Senot Brev. Mmmmm⦠smooth, tasty and oh so wet!
(sorry, Iâm still surprised at how cool that Lava Rats story was!)
Iâm sure Kyle will weigh in on the official Verbtones naming saga, as I am the 2nd drummer for the band. But I'm sure it has something to do with a verb being an ACTION word! (And besides, it's better than The Corn Stools!!! )

I'm a big Brian Wilson fan. The Original name of the Beach Boys was Carl and the Passions. My Name is Carl .... hence the Pashuns - mispelt for a bit of individuality and to Google well...

And here I thought Senot Brev was some french guy.
Good thing it wasn't

"No, we don't surf, we are chicken of the sea..." from Ferenc
Also, Pollo Del Mar was the name of the Santa Barbara spa that Steve Martin goes to with a young hot Sarah Jessica Parker in LA Story...classic.
This is embarrassing but we got our name the following way:
Looking for names, I liked "The Indicators" which is a surf spot in Palos Verdes. Billy was looking around the practice room and spotted an old laminated backstage pass to a RATT tour when they were promoting the Detonator album. Billy was a friend of the band and got the pass while hanging out with them on them back in the day when the Detonator album came out. Poof, he had an idea for the name of the band. So after a band vote, The Detonators won out. Rawk on.
Cheers,
Ted

Oh man, first a Kip Winger bass, and now this? That's classic. You guys aren't planning on adding any Dokken to the set, are you?

Man, I thought you forgot about the Kip Winger bass. Now you bring up Dokken. Back in the day, Billy was a plumber in his previous life and installed Don Dokken's fountain in his front yard. He was so proud, he still has a copy of the check that Dokken paid with on the wall of the practice studio, next to the Detonator laminated pass and some shots of Billy in zebra-striped spandex, rokken like dokken!

I wanted to name us after the band "The Mosquitoes" on Gilligan's Island (Bingo, Bongo, Bango and Irving) but there were too many damn bands already using that name. So when in doubt, just add "Atomic" on there and make it your own.
Notice that our logo is somewhat similar to the Gilligan logo?

The Del-Vamps because our original drummer wanted something with "Del" in it...lol. We were on a monster theme back then, so we all decided it would be cool to be vampires, but Del-Vampires sounded lame. So, we went with the shortened version and it stuck. Pretty lame, I know. No exciting or interesting story about it. However, the drummer's alternate name, which he was set on, was the Dinky Ghouls...no kidding!

Are you guys the same Del-Vamps from Arizona circa 97 with Benny from The Volcanics?

Yes, we are the same. Benny was the drummer right before he moved back to Las Vegas and then out to L.A. We formed in 1993 in Tempe and just reformed about 4 months ago after splitting up in 1999.

I came up with the name for Zombie Surf Camp mainly out of geographical location and the love for B movies.
Being from southern California and currently living in north San Diego, we are within a stones throw of San Onofre Nuclear Power plant. In the mid to late 80's is when all the protesting was going on at Diablo Nuclear power plant. Which at that time I was living in Los Osos. Basically spitting distant to the plant while going to school in Morro Bay. What really set things up for the ZSC name was that back then Surfer magazine had a comic strip called Maynard and The Rat and every now and then they parody the surf spots close to these facility with mutants surfing and talking about the good ol' days before the toxic sessions began.
Focusing it on Zombies was almost a given, plus with the flood of Zombie films hitting the independent market with such force. I figured it was a smart move to tap this market.
So, I guess a lot of the thought going into the name was from my past with all nuclear issues always being present and the other just watching the way B-movie culture was moving. Much to my surprise, many people take the zombie culture thing as serious as the Star Trek Trekkies do.

my solo project Pointbreak Spy... comes from "Spybreak" (The Propeller Heads techno spy tune in the Matrix movie) and a tonque in cheek nod to "Pointbreak" (the movie about a gang of surfers who robbbed banks in masks). So both movies star Keanu Reeves, I must be a one man tribute to the guy!!

I played bass shortly with Benny in a band called "Benny and the Goons". Benny played guitar and dressed up as Dracula while the drummer and I wore skeleton outfits. Does anyone know where Benny is now?

Woody said: "We were originally The Jaguars for a short time, but never performed using that name. "
Actually, The Mariners did perform once as The Jaguars and that was for a Talent Contest in our home town in the early '60's. We performed with our girl drummer "Donna" which was a real cool deal at the time. Very soon afterwards, we changed our band name to The Mariners and have stuck with it since.
Oh btw, we won that talent contest and kicked the backside of the band that was the cat's meow in the area during that time. Remember WoodyJ??

The guitar player and myself have been playing surf music on and off since 2000 with a number of different band names and drummers. When we got together with our current drummer I had the idea of using Retro as a part of our band name. Sometimes I'll grab a dictionary and open it up and see what words pop up...one day I opened it up to gamma ray and the surf bands name fell into play...Retroactive Gamma Rays.
