I was in San Diego last weekend and saw an article about the swami in the local free weekly:
http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2015/feb/04/lists-swamis-new-trip/
If you're thinking of going to the Casbah show in SD on Sun, I'd suggest getting advance tix. Yeah, SOS (Sold Out Surf) is pretty LOL, but John is a local boy and his past bands (Rocket from the Crypt, Drive Like Jehu) are VERY popular in SD. Earthless (who I saw last Sat at the Casbah) was SOLD OUT. And ironically, their drummer (Mario R) was in those past bands w/John. Earthless another local band made good, tho more in the stoner/psych/jam mode (but INSTRUMENTAL!!).
I'll have to be content w/seeing the Swami w/two NON-surf bands at the Bottom of the Hill in SF Thurs. Which is the site of the only SOS show I can remember (Surf Coasters, Slacktone and Pollo del Mar). PS, it only holds about 200 people. mattk

Matt, thanks for the heads up about the show at BOTH on Thursday. I had no idea. Are they headling or opening?

Who's the idiot who forgot he's got Monday off work? This guy.
In for San Diego if you are, my friend.

Thanks Jeff!
Now that was a fun show to be a part of! It was so great that Jonpaul, Warren, Jeff and his girlfriend made the trek south to make the show. It was also great to see Nick (Sofa_King) again. Thanks so much guys!
That was our first show in a while (since summer of last year). So a sold out show at the Casbah was a good fying pan to get thrown into!
As far as Swami John Reis and the Blind Shake go, I was literally blown away by their set. They absolutely killed. I have not seen so much raw power in a surf set in a very long time, if ever actually. The songs are great. Really great. And the Downstroke Overlord was in full effect playing a really cool custom guitar from Madrid guitars. It was also great to see John unleash a blackface Showman + matching reverb tank. His sound was beyond huge.
The band that John chose for this project could not have been selected any better. The Blind Shake are such a great band and I have been digging their other records immensely. I highly recommend their latest, Breakfast of Failures. I was basically pinned next to Jim Blaha, guitar player for The Blind Shake, the entire show. His on-stage energy is truly infectious. He is a wizard of sound. He went back and forth from a Telecaster to a Vintage Modified Jazzmaster.
The icing on the cake of the band though was the sax player. He really added a dimension of primal raw surf tradition to the sound of the band. Overall, the set was truly inspirational. John Reis has struck gold for the fourth time with this project. I picked up Modern Surf Classics on vinyl at the show. It will sit alongside my Drive Like Jehu Bullet Train to Vegas 7"
