I just bought my first reverb tank! I am beyond ecstatic, to say the least. I am not concerned about modding it right away, for now I am just happy to have an actual tank. I'll be honest, the FRV-1 vs. Flint vs. Fender Tank vs. Surfy Bear vs. G-Spring thread really inspired me to make this purchase. I bought it off of Reverb.com, and it is in mint condition. It sat in his smoke free studio for over 3 years, and is flawless. Before today, I had been using a Flint pedal. The Flint sounds awesome for a pedal, but I want that splashy, wet, surf reverb that one can only get from a tank. I can't wait to get home and try it out!

Hey SSS,
-
Those RI's sound great just as the come...... You'll love it.
-
Be damn careful with the input and output jacks. They are the Achilles heel those things.
Always be sure to loop the ends of your cables under the handle in case you trip over a cable in the dark. It will save you a LOT of aggravation.
Splash on kid.
Reverbs, and then some.

very happy for you. this was the one piece of equipment that fascinated me the most for my entire guitar playing life. it's also the one I regret selling (and I've had 60s guitars and a ton of great amps). the only modification I cared about was a 6k6gt. enjoy!

Congratulations. Although these units sound okay out of the box, I highly recommend a tube swap from 6V6 to 6K6. It'll be worth it and is simple to do.

Thanks for all the kind words, everybody! I tried it out this morning, and love it! Keep in mind, I am using a Peavey Studio Pro 112 amp, set on the clean setting (one thing at a time, right?).
eddiekatcher, I will be very careful with the input and output jacks, thanks for the heads up. zzero, I would love to jam with you. However, I don't think you would want to jam with me, as I am a total beginner! owen, you can still find them reasonably priced online, you should get another one!
SanchoPansen, Can you go into detail about what the difference will be? Does it give it a warmer tone? Thanks again for all the kind comments.

Is this what I should order? How many of these do I need? Also, I am terrible with installations, wiring, etc... Should I hire someone to install them, or do you really think I can do it?

Congrats! Once you go tank, you never go back.
Also, you can now become a tank snob like me (and a few others on these boards), thumbing your nose at all of the poor folks using pedals

Yep, that's the one. Very easy to install. Just unplug the old one and plug in the new one. It has a key on the center that lines up with the notch in the tube socket. Congrats!

To answer an earlier question, this tube change will give you a lusher sound. It's really quite noticeable. What you have linked is what you are looking for, but I think that price is really high. Just a quick search on ebay is turning up 6k6 tubes for around $5-$10 a piece, which sounds about right. As for installing it, I say you can ABSOLUTELY handle it yourself. Honestly, it's just pull the old out and put the new one in. It really is that easy. You don't even have to take anything apart.

Tube installation........
Remember the 6V6 and 6K6 both have a "keyed" plastic center guide pin and be careful to not break it off which could result in installing the new tube in the wrong orientation. Rotate the new tube carefully until you feel the pin engage in it's tube socket.
The preamp tubes have a "missing" pin to facilitate their proper installation orientation.

Hey guys, I just ordered a NOS RCA 6K6GT, a JAN Philips 12AX7WA, and a NOS 12AT7. I hope those will work, because they were expensive! I have been doing a lot of research on this site, very helpful. Thanks again for all your feedback.

Congrats! Same color as mine, but yours is pristine; nice score!
Remember also for when you get in the mood (and you might) that all 3 tubes in that tank affect the overall tone & reaction of the controls, but generally nothing that isn't a knob twirl away. (That particular 6K6 is still the benchmark.) The 2 smaller tubes can have very different personalities from other makes of the same type. Lastly, remember that someone else's DwellMixTone settings aren't yours -just listen to your ears & use the knobs.
You did great on the tube purchases; now go DRIP!
