Permalink Los Twang! Marvels Documentary/Interview Program

New Topic

Not sure if this has already been posted. I couldn't find it, but if so, apologies. I stumbled upon this Brazilian Los Twang! Marvels program which includes interviews, playing, etc. I'm assuming it was filmed during their time in Brazil for the SESC concert that was very popular on here. Anyways, its a pretty awesome and rare closeup look into one of the very best instrumental bands in existence. Including what looks to be some issues they had trying to get the sound they were going for with a club owner and sound engineers. Enjoy!

It's nice to fully understand what they say.

Can you possibly shed some light on what was going on between them and the sound engineer during their rehearsal? It sounded like Alex wasn't too happy about how the sound engineer wanted things. My Spanish is muy terrible Smile

Sure ...
Producer and studio owner explain that they have pre. established guidelines for the recording (sound and video), they wanted the band to plug in directly to a digital interface and Alex says ... no way.

The owner argues that there is going to be too much noise in the room and Alex tells him not to worry cause they had play in smaller rooms and the solution is to place the amps facing the wall. He ask the producer what he prefers .. to have a good shot of the band enjoying or follow the guideline and have the band in an uncomfortable situation. In the end the producer supports the band and tell them they can work it out for both parts to be happy. Same situation in the live venue when the owner ask them to play at low volume ... they are not happy and say it's live music, not a CD player. They want to play at normal volume but the owner is afraid that the public will be bored after 1 hour of music ... Yolanda suggest to make 3 sets of 20 minutes each and play the soft song first so people can start drinking and maybe start to dance after that.

Boris tell a joke .. "if you want me to play at a lower volume, you need to pay me more"

When you have to shoot ... shoot! Don't talk.

Watching now - very cool! Thanks, Ryan!

It's funny - Los Twang! Marvels played the same Brazil TV show as the Bambi Molesters, and now this special looks a LOT like the Bambi Molesters special done for Croatian TV in December. What is it with TV producers and interviewing surf bands in moving vans??

OK, back to watching...

That has got to be one of the best shots at sigline material on the planet, EVER.
ROTFL

Agree with Ivan on the 'vibe' of the vid. Had a very Bambi-esque quality to it.

Thanks for the post Ryan and the translation Emilien.

Folks!

Hahaha, indeed a fun one...at first my excuses to Neri, and that crew (I think they specially came from far far away to shoot with HD cameras and stuff) I was rude, impolite and was pickin´ my nose all the time at the debatte, had we know it was going to be an "interface inferno" we would have put it down from the very beginning...in any case it is always legitimate to defend and protect your sound, your performance, your muse, your own voice.
But again, i was a bit too rude and creepy...well, social skills I still have to improve.
Best vibes to everyone!
