noaa is awesome.

That' looks intense. I saw some heavy surf in NC when I was there in the early 80s. It's scared me half to death, even with the house on stilts.

Yeah, all the surfers around here were talking about 10-15 feet off obx the last few days. Its like that here in V Beach, but choppy as hell, plus the water is still at like 50. Also, knee-high is avarage waves around here, most of these kids would shit bricks paddleing out in that shIte.

Monkey yes, i saw em like that at camp lejeune in the mid 60's. no, i was not brave enough to try to ride a wave like that! peace Wink

This was the surf in Cocoa Beach today, just down the road from our bass player's house. Thanks mom for sending us waves!

yea i lived at camp lejuene n.c. for 1964 to 1970 i used to surf onslow beach every day in the summer for 6 years i would take the cattle car out to the beach every morning at 6:00 my dad ran the N.C.O. beach club at onslow and the surf beachs on the base so he would let me keep my board there i rember quite a few really big swell like this one.you had to wait for the wind to switch off shore befor you could surf. up here in n.y.c. the surf right now is 3 to 4 ft and fair and a real nice ground swell coming in form the storm down there of n.c. surfs up man

Mom-surfing,

Yes indeed, very rare. That was shot yesterday at RC's in Satellite Beach. You can check out more on 2nd street's website. Down here in South Florida it was clean and unrideable at 15' with long glassy closeouts. Lots of surfers sitting on the beach just watching because they were closing out so fast. Much smaller and more rideable today.

i had the feeling that photo was taken in satellite beach. our surf up here is still big and choppy. a container ship lost a couple of containers off our coast and now there's chunks of stryrofoam all over our beaches for miles. the coast guard rescued people off three sailboats also. who knows what may wash up here in the next few days.

Thanks for posting that very cool picture!
There's something about Huge Surf... back in December (I think) there was a tow-in surf competition in Lincoln City, Oregon (Nelscott Reef)... 35+ surf!! It was amazing watching these teeny white trails streaking down the waves 1/2 mile off shore. Got to see guys like Peter Mel, Jeff Clark, Flea... amazing!
Here's a pic... yup... that's Oregon!

Believe it or not, MIAMI (South Beach) was the place for waves yesterday. Perfect A-frames, clean and double overhead. I haven't found photos yet but I'm sure they'll be posted somewhere. It was really exciting just watching these monsters roll in. However, I hope beach and property damage was kept to a minimum up your way.

As for Oregon surf, my hats off to you guys - both for having the guts to handle big wave surfing and for braving the cold. (Those Maverick boyz and the best) Awesome photo!

I don't have the guts to handle big wave surfing, but with a 4/3 wetsuit, booties, gloves and maybe a hood, the cold water's no problem... oh yeah, except for the ice cream headaches! Shocked Yeee-ouch!
