I just got a bunch of Supertones, Buddy Dughi, Retroliners
and Ralph Rebel. All of it is worth picking up (especially @
$5.99), but I wouldn't say any of them are super-great.
However, if you don't already have the Bitch Boys' "Ride
the First Wave" and the Torquays' "Somewhere in
California" & "Return Engagement" ,
these are "must-haves", IMHO. I'd give those 3 CD's 5-star
ratings. The Paul John acoustic CD's are pretty cool, too.

I agree with Bob, the Bitch Boys and 2 Torquays cds are must haves.
as for the Podolar tribute, it would be nice if the bands that contributed to this
could at least get a 2 cdr copy of the finished product.
this was gonna be the public Debut of the Moby Dicks, we did Undercurrent.
Now I'm sad that it wont see the light of day. But i'd liek to have a copy of the songs on cdrs. Hell, I'd do the copying of them if Mel wanted.

A solution could be for Mel to work with an European label as I don't think you have to pay any mechanical licensing for cover versions over here.

Klas that would be a psuedo solution, but we might not be able to get them here. Yes Bootlegs do make it in from Europe, we used to get them all the time, at the place I worked at before. But ocasionally we as a distributer would get a cease and desist over some cds, and have to send them back or face a law suit.
but I dont think Mel wants to hassle with it anymore.

I was not suggesting any bootleg but a legal European release that could be legally distributed in the U.S.

For example, the small Italian label OmOm Records managed to release a 25 track Burt Bacharach surf tribute and make it available in the U.S.

I agree with Klas' suggestion, and OmOm is a likely canidate. But I also agree with Jeff that Mr. Spinella probably doesn't want to be bothered with this project at all.
Perhaps if someone has a good relationship with Robert Ruggeri at OmOm they would suggest the project to him and see if he is interested.
Klas, did the Surfites contribute a track? I had a complete track listing at one point, but that was a few email crashes ago.

If Mel doesn't want to be bothered with the project anymore, I think he should hand it over for free to someone who would like to be bothered with it. If I remember correctly, all the tracks are mastered and ready.
The Surfites contributed "Black Boots And Bikes".

That's very true. A lot of bands put up $ for studio time to make this happen. We have a vested interest in this project as well.

Yeah, Phil Dirt mastered it (with a few different sequences).

Does anyone know why the golly gee records site is down? Looks like it's been down for a couple of days. I was trying to get some Torquays and Bitch Boys before the sale ended. Dang!
