Jim is a great guy in person,

But that is a check please moment for me, he's really lost the surf vibe, and it is so sad for alot of us that love the Livey Ones the way they used to be,
but have to see him play like this at the surf museum.

What can we do to help him?

Sadly, many of the 1st wavers already lost it one way or another along time ago and are now far beyond any "help".

The Lively One didn't seem too lively.

Here is a hint of what was once there.. These guys were awesome on their prime. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJiu4yFoVWo&mode=user&search=

Sadly, aging is a part of life. IMHO, it does not take away from the body of work they did in the 60's. Great first wave stuff. There was a good reason they were named The Lively Ones. Say what you want but that looked like a platinum record on the wall behind him Worship Not many of us have or ever will have a platinum record.

So we all agree Mr D at 70 isn't that bad after all, no?

I enjoyed the clip, thanks DP. Maybe I can finally play the song correctly now. They also have a Telstar clip:

Those M Ventures guys didn't seem too lively either, just like the Ventures. Wink So bravo for nailing that! Laughing

Got the word from a present band member. This was shot a rehearsal for the 2000 Rendezvous Ballroom Reunion Concert.

Get him a new Stratocaster.

Those M-Ventures guys are pretty good, I dont like the drummer though, he pales next to Mel Taylor (or Leon Taylor for that matter)

I liked the Lively Ones clip, yeah they dont rock out like they probably did 40 years ago, but who does? (except for EddieKatcher)

Get him a new Stratocaster.

On the contrary, I think the problem is it is a new Stratocaster. Wink

Like I said though, it's still nice to see him playing no matter what kind of equipment he's playing through. If you squint your ears you can get a sense of the original Lively Ones that we all love.

wow! man really many thanks! somewhere before I read nokie edwards had written this song but I never heard of that thanks to you I learned this great info, I thank you again! for sure lively ones' cover is more cool.

In my opinion; Jim Masoner is a genius! His guitar style and tones are beyond excellent! I can find no words to describe!

Here you go.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Hello all,

I used that video quite some time back when I needed to figure out a part of the song. Nokie plays it differently. Heck, Nokie played that part so many ways, I could not figure out which to use. So I turned to Jim's version. I stumbled across that video. It has a good clear shot of his hand on the fretboard. Perfect learning tool.

I am definitely in the minority on this one. I found nothing wrong with that. Just some guys playing in their living room. Surely I am not the only one here who sometimes plays in the living room. I sometimes play laying back in the recliner.

That video came across as very down to earth and homey to me. As for losing the vibe, I wish I could ever play as good as Jim does in that video. He ahs two things I don't (and never will have) that much talent and a platinum record to prove it.

Here they are at a performance. They still sound pretty darn good to me.

On this one we will have to agree to disagree.
Talk to you later,
Norm
