Permalink The Del Vamps revisited

New Topic

I was going through the hall closet today & came across a box full of old cd's. I pulled this one out. I wondered where that went. It's our very own "Matt tha Kat" Lentz! I uploaded it to my computer long ago, as I do with all my cd's. I bought this cd at a Del Vamps show 15? years ago. I really can't remember, but I will always remember what a good time their shows were. My favorites are Rik-A-Tik, Undertow & Squad Car, but they're all pretty good. Just thought I'd share. Cool

Must have cd.
Wish I could have seen them live.

Awesome! Thanks for the plug, Bob! We did that CD back in 1997, before I got really sick. It was a lot of fun to do as we recorded it in the converted garage of the bassist's house. Originally it was only meant to be a Fireballs tribute EP on vinyl (the first 4 tracks) but Sean asked us to do a whole CD instead. My favorite was the "live" hidden track that we dubbed over with Cheap Trick's "Live at..." to make it sound live. LOL

Funny story; about a year ago when I realized that I didn't even have a copy of the CD (I usually give all my stuff away), I ordered one off of Amazon that I found. I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was a signed copy from 1998! LOL I bought my own signature! Smile

I thought you'd get a kick out it Matt. Funny you had to pay for your own autograph. Laughing When I first listened to Coco-naughty & heard Undertow I thought "hey, I know that song". So I had to listen to your Del-Vamps version & compare. The Del-Vamps version sounds just as good to me, just a little less polished. I'm glad you still do that tune!

Yep, the SSIV did a version of it too, on the Ballad of the Tiki album. Seems all my recording bands have recorded that, and against my wishes, too. LOL. I guess that's a sign that it's actually a decent song?

It's a great song, IMO. You don't like your own song? Big Grin

Otto & The Ottomans

Thanks for the compliment. No, I do like it. It's just I've played it for so long, but it's the one everyone likes and wants to record. I don't mind playing it live, but recording it for each band was a bit much, methinks. Smile

There was a 1996 version on the "Belt Out!" EP from our own label: Hana Hana Wiki Wiki, which I think is the best one.

The 1998 version is on the CD

2008 was the version on the Surfside IV disc

2012 version on the Coconauts' CD

I wrote the song back in 1993.

The Surf Stompin' Nightmare was on Michael Lucas' label: Repent.

Noel, thanks for your interest in the Del-Vamps. We had a long, shaky career, but it was a lot of fun too. Thanks for the kind words, Bob!

I saw you guys - at Hollywood Alley - in '95 or '96 I think. Smile Good times.

Edit, I just realized that was nearly 20 years ago. Wow, feelin' old now.
