Just posted on my instagram: http://instagram.com/p/w8IQPjMXyL/?modal=true

This 'gem' became The 'Verb's When It Rains... back in the summer of 2004.

How many of you turned a vocal original tune into a surf song?

To me, this sheet of paper is an amazing find. It speaks of friendship, the pure intention of creating music, and is a big piece of history in my life.

Thank you for sharing this story and these lyrics with us, Jake.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

That is one of my favorite tracks from that album.

As an interesting and related side-note pertaining to the 'Ventures In Space' thread, Love Goddess of Venus was originally a vocal tune written by Don Wilson.

Profound, Jake. I think I know how you felt.

I have said this repeatedly but here it is again.

My similar moment when "the light came on:"

After reading about a battle of the "surf" bands at Dotties during the '96 Olympics here in Big A, as well as reading articles that summer about The Penetrators, and Thee Phantom 5five in Atlanta's entertainment weekly "Creative Loafing," I started feeling that there was something going on around here and I needed to be a part of it. Yhen I caught Dick Dale at The Point that November and finally The Penetrators in January. My mind was pretty much set, the pump was primed.

In February 1997, I pitched the idea of an instrumental band side project to our long time Top-40 band members at practice, and after their responses of "you're nuts, no way," I packed my toys, walked out and that was it.

That was my surf music "big bang."

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

For us, most songs start in our heads. You can clearly tell the ones that were written on guitar and which ones just came out of our heads.

For Eric, he is pretty much a prodigy... so I think they just come to him.

For me, I might come up with the first 10 notes on guitar, but 10 notes does not make a song that I want to listen to. It does make a decent 2 minute surf romp though! But I just get stuck on guitar so I'll put it into my head and finish the song while I'm walking or something.

I'm in it from the other direction, of course, but thanks for sharing this.

Thanks for sharing this. Smile Pretty neat.
