It was five years ago that I sold the Rondo/SX SJM hardtail to the owner of the Squier '51 Modders Site/Forum. While at my local shop yesterday I saw an SX Liquid w/tremolo in what can best be described as Daphne Blue in "Like New" condition and bought it because it had the P-90's. Like before it is looong even for my 6'3" 190 frame but I figured at $99 it was a deal.
I intend on keeping it stock but are there any tips on set-ups, pickup height etc. that I should know about?

What type of bridge and vibrato does it have? Some have tune-o-matics w/ Bigsbys and other have Jag/Jazz vibratos and Jag/Jazz bridges.

The newly acquired SX Liquid has the Jaguar/Jazzmaster style tremolo with roller bridge. The SX SJM I had five years ago was a hardtail yet it buzzed like crazy, that and the lack of a trem was why I sold it. One thing, the tobacco burst finish on the SJM was GORGEOUS, the Liquid is similar in color to Fender's Daphne Blue.

I owned one of these a few years back; and my rhythm guitar player recently purchased one as a backup to his Tele. I can tell you that the trem has a useless collet that will likely not hold the arm in place at all. Ours fell out all the time. I would recommend swapping it out for at least a cheap craigslist Squire VM unit; as I have a couple of these and they do work surprisingly well. My favorite is the Jag/JM Classic Players Trem: as it uses the threaded arm- and with the aftermarket Trem arm spring inside, it works marvelously well at keeping the arm just where I want it for fast access.

Roller bridges are the absolute worst, no advice for that other than replacing it(I don't know what thimble size these use so I can't recommend a replacement).
For the trem, there is that bigger center screw, that controls the height/action of the tremolo. There is 100% a sweet spot you will want to find for this. Also, if the arm doesn't fit tightly, you can slightly bendt the bottom tip in a vice, use teflon tape, or other remedies online.
As for pickup height, you surely don't want the strings hitting the pickups, so just back them off a quarter inch or so from that point.
The nut, the bridge, and your string job will make or break the guitar. These are the weak point on any cheap guitar.

Thank you all for the tips. The nut will have to be cut properly, I'm getting some binding and there seems to be some "play" in the tuning machines, I may have to replace them but will wait until after the nut is fixed.
