Another great show under overcast skies.

A band consisting of members of the Planktones & Glasgow Tiki Shakers started things off. They were outstanding.
image

Next were the Glasgow Tiki Shakers who sounded fantastic today & last night at the Doll Hut. Very tight.
image

The Neptunes are a band reinvented. Formerly a 3 piece Wearing Fez hats & playing double neck guitars, they are now a 5 piece with a sax fronting. Wow! The absolutely ripped. Not even car trouble in Bakersfield could stop them.
image

Flowmaster also tore it up. They get tighter every time. Doug Forbes broke out the organ for some Telstar old school style. Perhaps the surprise of the day for me was they covered Marricone's spaghetti western song, "Guns Don't Argue."
image

The Surfaris warmed up the crowd for The Aqusonics who lived up to their reputation & expectations. The bands was tight, over came some sound problems beyond their control & played their butts off.

"Mad Dog" Mike of The Aquasonics & Ron Eglit of The Surfaris.

Those were HER fries....

That's Linda Miller. She does a top notch job of putting all these shows together for the HB Surf Museum image
She only gets angry when someone eats her fries.

It was my first time there, and I got some photos too! But they basicaly are just like those already posted.
The Aquasonics T-shirt I won here on SG101 is cool! I wanted to get autographs from them on the shirt, but it is black, and nothing would show up on it. I also purchased a cd from them. It's good too!
My wife and I had never been to a show there before. We both had a good time. A little under 200 mile round trip and worth it. I felt right at home with all the older folks there.
Let me tell you, Huntington Beach sure has changed since I was a teenager.
Man,,,, the Aquasonics are young, they are good looking and they have a great stage presence! Their playing was supurb concidering the night before.
They should go far. They have my vote!

Joel

Hey those were my fries!!!

John and Linda bought Baja Marty and I lunch for helping the bands with their equipment and other assorted museum/pier gig responsibilities.

I'd never take Linda's fries,
She'd hit me with her cane, then call the police on me, or even worse
DD, then I'd really be in trouble. Rolling Eyes

Hey Guys and Gals,

You all are gonna make me work harder for good shots. These are nice.
I'll be posting my photobucket stuff today. What a great day for surf
music. Ya just can't beat it at the beach!!

Surf's Up, Rich

Hi there...Well I managed to survive a very long day but my feet still hurt. Despite some behind the scenes difficulties that morning we pulled off a fantastic show. I couldn't have done it without great musicians, roadies bigtikidude, Baja Marty, John Benton for providing equipment, Marty Tippens for providing the drums and soundman Will & his assistant John Paul. I am grateful for HBKahuna recommending the Aquasonics and both Tim and Rich for sharing their pictures with all of you so you can see what fun we have in "Surf City". When I set out on this mission for Surfin Sundays 3 years ago I had visions of making Surfin Sundays bigger and better. I am happy to say with so many wonderful people helping me my visions have become a reality. Stealing fries would not make me angry but asking for a phone book would. LOL! Adrien claims we had a man in our audience who could tear a phone book in half and asked me if we had one a gazillion times, we had many good laughs over it. Considering we had 6 bands playing in 6 hours we had one power failure and only went 15 minutes overtime. I was absolutely amazed at the talent on that stage and the commeraderie between everyone involved. Plank-Shakers started the crowd off on the right foot and set the tone of the day. Glasgow Tiki Shakers shook up the audience and had the stage shaking off it's foundation. Neptunes played in a whole new way and added a saxophone that reached deep in my soul. Flowmasters as always set the shoes to dancin. Surfaris knocked our socks off. AquaSonics as Dick would say were outta sight man. Chris and his double picking launched the audience into orbit and Matt (mister personality) spinning his bass guitar was unlike anything I've ever seen before. Maui and Mad Dog keep the rhythm and beat jumpin. One of the highlights of my day was dancin with Matt. Thanks to all the guys and gals that make my job such a pleasure. Monkey

This was a great day! Linda Miller did a great job! 6 bands, 6 hours - 15 minutes over at the end of the day - Wow!

I wrote a whole review of this on another thread, so I won't repeat anything here, but this was the coolest day I've gotten to be a part of ever!

"You can't tell where you're going if you don't know where you've been"

It is too bad this got spread across 5 or 6 threads. Next time try to keep it all together under one thread with a meaningful title....HB Pier show photos won't mean much in one month. Think of the historical record people! Smile Feel free to edit the first post title HBKahuna.

It sure sounded like one helluva time! Congrats to everyone!!!! Thumbs Up

It was one helluva great time but it wouldn't have been possible without each band donating their precious Sunday afternoon in support of HBISM.
Also great volunteers such as roadies Bigtikidude, Baja Marty & John Benton's help that make it possible. We couldn't share it with the world without HBKahuna & Rich taking fantastic pictures and submitting them to this site either. All in all I am blessed being surrounded by many great people who make Surfin Sundays very successful.
THANK YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!
