this is the nicest surf twanging rock guitar I've built for myself so far, if I may toot my horn. TK Smith neck and blade CC pickups with thomastik flatwounds, maple top-sugarpine body made by rutters.

That is beautiful. I've always wanted to build myself a Bigsby style guitar and my recent introduction to T K Smith's original style pickups and your gorgeous build are fueling that fire.
Well done!

Jeff

Thanks Badge! I was looking at racks, ugly cheap plastic things for $100, thinking, "there's got to be a poor man's alternative". Saw a guy made one out of PVC pipe for some $40. It got me to thinking, "what material have I got already so I can save $40?" A cedar porch glider has been sitting broken since a tree fell on it in a Santa Ana wind. I already salvaged a few of its slats to build my pedal board and the rocker carriage made a perfect base. The slat width was even pre-slotted and it was a matter of a few saw cuts and repositioning of bolts to assemble this. Literally a handful of modifications to re-engineer it. I still have the entire seat to make something else out of, and being cedar, it's weather-proof, softer than guitar finishes thus safe w/o padding, and pretty to boot in its barnwood silver patina.

Some of my axes, with the newest one at right. I just repurposed part of a broken cedar porch glider to make this 'barnwood' rack.

I love that idea for a rack. Nice job!

Thumbs Up

Isn't the HB supposed to go in the bridge position on these things?

Pipeline Custom Surf Guitars, by Gavin. The woody is named "Sheila" and has two Fender Jaguar pickups. The Yellow and Daphne Blue model is "Betty" and features two Fender Jazzmaster pickups.

Windandseaboy,
Those are 2 absolutely beautiful guitars!

I am not obsolete, I am RETRO.... Cool

That's a great backstory! (Santa Ana winds; oh I remember those.) I look at prices for rudimentary things nowadays and shake my head, being a CRB (cheap retired bast...).

Number 2 son had part-time college job building mounts for industrial-size roof-mounted HVAC units & got pretty good at manipulating extruded aluminum without slicing himself. Built me a pedal board out of scrap during his lunch break one night. A little 2-sided velcro and suddenly I was organized.

This is a cool thread!

The green strat is cool - but I'm selling it cause the hot red one just tears it apart as for me. Seems to me that this heavy ash on deluxes is not for me...it weights the same as a les paul - 4,5 kilos.

UFF-da! Shock

Just out of curiosity, because I've never handled one, how much does the Yamaha weigh?
