Permalink unexpected breakfast surf encounter

New Topic

So, this morning I was doing the breakfast routine in the kitchen while the kids were watching Sesame Street, when all of I sudden I hear a deep loud gritty voice say "COWABUNGA!" ... so I walk to the tele to see what's up, and I catch the last seconds of Cookie Monster devouring a surfboard. Rolling Eyes

unfortunatly, no reverb on the soundtrack.

My 6 year old let out a COWABUNGA! as he threw in the ball at his last soccer game. It worked! The other team froze.

I think Animal would make a good surf drummer.

Maybe I can get our drummer to dress as Animal!

Animal is based on Keith Moon who used to play in a 'surf' band.

So who is Dr. Teeth based on?

Phil Dirt would not agree with the "Keith Moon was in a surf band" legend. I think the band was called "The Beachcombers" as I recall. I know nothing either way, I just remember Phil posting about that, disputing it on some Yahoo Group eons ago.

Cookie Monster rules.

Most surf drummers are animals when it comes to playing...THANK GOD!

Damn I thought you guys were talking about Dusty Watson till I saw it really was Animal...Gotta love em both :>)

I'm a lover not a fighter, a hugger not a handshaker and I take friendships very seriously...Love the life you live, live the life you love. Cool

Yeah, I've read that he was never in an actual surf band, but that he (according to who I don't know) was supposedly influenced by surf drumming early on. I dunno but I'd like to think that that's true.

Anyways, back on the subject of muppets. Cookie monster indeed rules. "C is for Cookie" is a great song.

Guitar Cool

Just about every page you google says The Beachcombers were a "surfing group" along the lines of Jan and Dean or the Beach Boys. Maybe this is what Phil meant. I find it hard to believe surf music had penetrated England in the early 60's though. But maybe it did?

According to wikipedia 'The Beachcombers' played 'The Shadows' covers.

That would make far more sense...maybe it is just the name of the band that trips people up into thinking it was surf.

So who is Dr. Teeth based on?

Hahahaha, a muppet thread!

Yeah, Dr. Teeth is based on Dr. John, and then there's bass player Floyd who's pink so he's a Pink Floyd I guess. Not sure who Zoot is based on but I'm guessing Chuck Mangione?

wasn't there a chick in the muppet band too?

Speaking of the Electric Mayhem, check out one of my favorite bits from Robot Chicken.

I'm guessing that Zoot is probably based on famous tenor man Zoot Sims.

Wow... chalk one up for Bill's semi-obscure jazz knowledge.
