It's today - May 4th! (Even the Fender Custom Shop calendar has it marked!)
I've been reading Stephen McParland's biography of DD for the last couple of weeks - it's been my bedtime reading! What a story.... Somebody really ought to make a movie out of it. It would be HUGE! BTW, I HIGHLY recommend this book. It's written extremely well, with great impartiality and attention to detail and accuracy.
I think I'll probably go see DD again when he comes through Michigan in just under two weeks. He's actually playing a bit closer to me this time....
Well, have a happy birthday, Mr. Monsour! May you get extra attention from the ladies today!

PS Tom Wheeler's upcoming encyclopedia "The Soul of Tone: 60 Years of Fender Amps" is supposed to have a 'lengthy' interview with DD. I'm looking forward to that. I'd really love to find out more details about Dick's role in the introduction of the Showman. Let's hope Wheeler was able to probe deeper than most interviewers....

LOL! So, I told my 5-year-old that tomorrow is Dick Dale's birthday. She said, "I want to go to his birthday party!" She wants hear him play "Misirlou."

The Squeeze and I are going to see Dick at Joey Harrison's in NJ at the end of May. It is a class place to play and see Dick. If any of you ever hit the east coast, it's worth trying to book. It's right on the ocean (the waves are 10-20 feet away)
The wife has a couple of signs ready for Dick such as:
"Don't think of it as 70.. think of it as 69.95"
or
" 70 - the new 50"
Any other ideas?

There should be a movie made about Mr Dale. That would be crazy. I love period movies. How many of us would be staring at the amps for accuracy?

Dick deserves nothing less than full recognition on his special day. As I talked to my best buddy Dick this morning he was loading up the car and heading for the next gig in Colorado. He had stopped overnight in Wyoming and was now ready to get on the road, drive 500 miles and still perform tonight. I sent him a special birrthday greeting as I always do and created a poem called "Seven Decades" as well as my usual am phone call. He was in excellent spirits and full of energy looking forward to the rest of his tour. Dick is and will always be "King" and I am honored we are the best of friends. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DICK I CAN'T WAIT TILL YOU GET BACK!!

I almost forgot...We have that book in the museum but no one knows where we got it from nor how to get another copy for Dick. Can you believe he doesn't have one and in looking at ours Dick expressed he's love to have a copy. PLEASE tell me where you got your books so maybe I have a chance of finding one for him.Thanks Linda
