Hey folks. I have gone through hundreds of ideas in my head to try and brand my surf group with an original look. I'm wanting to make the four members unique in their appearance...something that will last in the memories of an audience long after the show is over. I like the idea of using a mask or even a half-face mask.
I'm open to superhero costumes, an all black FBI agent look, honestly anything that looks fun and or/memorable that will brand us.
The name of the group is called "The Fintastics".
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Don't do masks, it is really overdone. The superhero idea isn't bad, that would go over pretty well with audiences.
What you wear is pretty irrelevant if you don't have stage presence. Different bands accomplish that in different ways, it really depends on your style of music(different surf bands evoke different things).
Be fun, but make the audience think you are a seasoned band.

How about just being yourselves at your own stylish best? Not gimmicky, but sharp. Maybe see a pro stylist who can help each of you find your own image. Us guys often need help in the visual department – women are trained since childhood to preen, but most guys don't (thankfully).
Some subcultures have tons of style – poor people typically set trends. Look around you on the street and see who has style. When I was a kid I liked the cholos (pachukos) who dressed so elegantly. I didn't copy them but they influenced the evolution of my Edwardian dandy ("Ted" or "Teddy Boy") phase.
This t-shirt, long shorts, baseball cap and jogging shoes orthodoxy has ruined American men's wardrobes. Keep that off the stage and you are ahead of the game.

My suggestion is to work on the music and then get out and drill it in a live setting. Common running themes in the music and performance will lead you in the right direction for a 'gimmick' when it is time.
We started off with a tacked on horror theme. I say "tacked on" because we grew to realize that it was very much that, and had little to do with the themes in our music. Even more, we weren't very good at pulling it off, as gimmicks only work if everyone in the band is 100% committed.

Good music and tight playing remove any need for a gimmick.

Of course with the name Fintastics I have throw the possibility of Mohawks out there. Of course that usually doesn't go over too well at day jobs or for the hair follicle challenged folks!

Might have gotten my movie quotes mixed up there.
Rather than a "gimmick" gimmick, how about getting a really good logo designed, and have them put on the back of matching shirts?

But seriously, that is a sex-doll. My knowledge from this solely comes from Reddit and a Huffington Post article.

Ben Davis work outfits are neat and cheap, have that working class chic going on. Everyone wants to look like a gas station attendant nowadays. Valorization of labor!

Or just making sure one of the band members doesn't show up in their pajamas or worse! LOL

That's the silliest suggestion I've ever heard, JObeast. We all know it is much better to look good than to be good. -Marty
