It's unbelievable that there's been NOTHING about this huge upcoming event on SG101! So, I will post a few things to at least let the SG101-ers (especially those not on top of Facebook) know what's happening.
The Bambis are celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band with a HUGE show in Zagreb just under three weeks from today, on Friday, December 5th. It's really not just a show, it'll be a festival! Here's the flyer:
image
I believe they're expecting 2000 people to be there! And then they're repeating basically the same show in Ljubljana, Slovenia the following night.
Leading up to this historic event there will be a bunch of promotion. Five days ago they appeared live on Croatian radio (and webcast - unfortunately I had a previous commitment and had to miss it, darn it!) - a short video documenting that appearance and a live recording of "Theme From Slaying Beauty" is attached at the bottom. And you can see a bunch of photos from the broadcast here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.766793733375783.1073741833.738309596224197&type=1 Oh, and here's a short piece on the radio station's own website about the whole thing: http://radio.hrt.hr/clanak/bambi-molesters-proslavili-20-roendan-na-hr2/75041/ (Google translator will come to help!)
There was also a lengthy interview with them in one of Zagreb's newspapers (I think): http://www.novilist.hr/Scena/Glazba/The-Bambi-Moesters-Da-nas-sad-otjeraju-dobro-smo-prosli
I believe that in the next couple of weeks Croatian TV will air a documentary on the band, as well.
So, lots and lots going on with one of the greatest bands flying the surf flag today! It's a miracle for any band in any genre to stay together for 20 years, and it's a remarkable achievement that the Bambis will be celebrating. I hope they will get a lot of support from the worldwide surf community!
(I'm also attaching their great 2003 documentary - with English subtitles - Backstage Pass - enjoy!)

I've seen the Flyer on SG101, a little bit back. But thanks a ton for aggregating the videos and photos!
I think it is incredible they do so well to get some really fantastic press!
Hopefully they have some merchandise for this anniversary that we are able to buy over here!

It would be a wonderful thing to be able to attend the event. But I'd be delighted to get hold of a 20th Anniversary T-shirt!

I adore this band... So great, I'm digging through my records now and looking at old photos of them online. Lots of good memories.

I think I just spend the best time this week seeing that Backstage Pass 2003 documentary. Why in the world I haven't seen that before puzzles me.
Anyway that movie pretty much says it all! I really enjoyed that!
The subtitles runs a bit fast an uneven at times. I didn't catch that part regarding The Space Cossacks and R.E.M.

I forgot about that! If I remember correctly, there was some kind of a rumor around circa '98-'99 that the Space Cossacks would be opening for REM. I have no idea how it got started, as it had nothing to do with reality, but I think when the Bambis heard it they told their label, which was part of the Warner Brothers empire at that time - the label that REM was on, I believe. So, their label contacted REM management and asked if they would have the Bambis open some European shows, to which they agreed, and the rest is history. At least that's how I remember the story. If Dalibor reads this, maybe he can correct anything that I got wrong.

I think Dancing Bear A&R man at that time had a dream that you were supporting REM in US so he sent promo package to REM management (he already had a contact with them). Based on this we supported them in 1999. Later we play 3 more shows (as seen in documentary) + I had a privilege to play guitar with REM in Zagreb and Ljubljana shows around 2005. I have to say it was very exciting thing for me. I think I have photos somewhere....

An outstanding achievement. They have earned all the good press with their great songwriting and arranging and playing. I had the privilege of having some meals with Dalibor in Zagreb (it must have been 2002, because he showed me a display for "For a Few Guitars More" in a CD shop window) and of meeting Lada and Hrvoje briefly, but didn't get to see the band play. I too wish I could go over for these shows!

That's my reaction as well. This is so cool & so well-deserved.
Ivan, thank you for putting this thread together. The studio piece was neat and, in constrast to normal 'film noir' techniques used, it was nice to see come color & smiles. The serious focus of the music is always evident in the stage-craft and what comes on the record.
Damn! I love these guys.

I want, one of these days, to see these guys play. I'd contribute as heavily as I could manage to seeing them at SG101. Why should I be the only one having fun? It's going to cost at least a round trip to Croatia to do it "the easy way."

Congratulations!
The Bambi Molesters had become a good "entrance door" for many people to start listening to good music. I like to tell folks about them when they ask me for an instrumental record that they will enjoy for sure.

Not necessarily Croatia. They have been known to play elsewhere in Europe.
