Here are the latest videos from the upcoming LS & DD Sing the Great Instrumental Hits.

It is an interesting concept. I am a fan of both artists, and enjoyed their combined recordings in the past, but something about these tunes seem awkward to me. Maybe I'm too familiar with the instros to be able to appreciate them with vocals. Perhaps they'll grow on me.

i liked 'kawanga', it would fit perfectly into an old surfing movie. 'you can count on me' is approaching weird al territory for me.

i too like past works from both artists.

I'm a big Deke and LS fan, so I'm looking forward to this album. 'Kawanga' sounds a lot like the Deke & Thrashmen project.
I like Deke better as an guitarplayer than a singer, though Big Grin

I liked the Kawanga Beat song, great Los Straightjackets sound, the other one well, the words seem to get in the way of a great instro.

You can blame Don Ho and Sammy Davis Jr. for "You can count on me"

Hey I'm open to new, fresh ideas, OK? But personally, I simply don't understand why this project was even conceived

I get the instro / vocal stuff they've done before (such as with Big Sandy), but this sounds, so far with what I have seen and heard, misguided

the vocal wasn't that strong in the mix(es), and the words are lost to my ears (although I see words flashing by at 600 m.p.h.)

I'm hoping that a "live tour" is NOT being planned around this LP in order to support it. I attend L.S.J. concerts b/c I dig their whole "shtick" (it never gets tired to me); but it's the instro music that is the true, deeper reason I love their shows. So please, no vocals? Please?

I kinda love Kawanga.

I'm sure y'all have heard the vocal version of Pipeline, right?

Freddie,

I believe there is a tour, but I suspect it will be a mix of what they do.

Saw the LSJ-Deke Experience last night here in The Burgh. To the naysayers, all I can tell you is that it was a wildly entertaining show. LSJ started with an instrumental set, then alternated throughout the evening, bringing Deke out for (roughly) three-song sets, each of which was followed by an instro set. Playing up its absolute weirdness, they had a pretty funny schtick built around the vocal Five-0 theme in which Deke attempted to summon the spirit of Sammy Davis, Jr. Everyone on stage seemed to be having a genuinely good time, and the crowd certainly loved it. I personally enjoyed the showmanship, which mashed LSJ's tight professionalism with Deke's loony antics (wrestling with an audience member, for instance).

Having said all that, I have to say the vocal version of "Kawanga" was the best, musically, of the Deke material and perhaps the one song that truly worked. I might also throw "Surfin' Bird" in there, too. But, hey, everybody needs to let their hair down once in while, go a little crazy, and just have fun (the value of which, I know, was much debated recently in another thread). In short, see the show if you can, have fun, take a pass on the album. Cheers!

I saw them the other night in Newport Ky, Great show as always. I wish Danny was there though.I brought some friends that didn't know about them. They really enjoyed the show. My wife who can handle only small doses of reverb had a blast. Deke adds somthing extra for people who just don't quite "get" all intsro music so I think its a win for a broader audiance. Definitely catch them if they come to your town.
